pad cleaner

I've never used this but want too. I use to many pads in a day to warrant the cost of a dedicated cleaner. I have used XMT's and simply loved it. I might need to step up and try the Wolfgang.

Any one got some for a trade?

the xmt pad cleaner and conditioner is nice, had a chance to use a sample a while back...as far as the wolfgang stuff it came in a packaged deal i bought from ag when my old pc finally went kaput and it works great as well...just not as fast. The wolfgang stuff is nice in that you can make a gallon or two of it and i just throw my towels and pads in and let them soak as i continue to detail...whe i'm done the towels go in the wash and the pads are ready to rinse off. a

So you wash the towels twice?? or do you do the W.G.soak then rinse the towels like the pads?

I wash all of my MF towels twice. The first wash gets laundry detergent and one cup of Purple Power....or less depending on the load size. The second wash is only half of the recommended detergent and no degreaser at all. Seems to get everything clean and all the soap is out.

Again, this is just the way "I" do it.

Justin, it seems that the XMT cleaner is much like Meg's Super Degreaser. Color is exact, and the smell is close. Both leave your hands super dry when working with it, and both do a super job cleaning the pads.

I've diluted Meg's SD 10:1 and put it back into XMT's bottle. Works perfect for me.

Not to mention its cheaper to buy 1 (ONE!) gallon of Meg's SD than one 16oz bottle of XMT cleaner. I'm not knocking on XMT, but trying to save some money.

-Nick

PS. Justin I have some WG I could send your way. I'll send a PM on its way as well.

I wouldn't come to the assumption that just because two products look familiar they are the same, it's really down to the chemical composition. But use what is effective, clean pads are important! :righton: I'd just make sure your pads hold up.

Ive used snippy clean worked good i think im just going to use dawn from now on

the towels are soaking in the wg...and after i am done detailing i rinse pads but the towels go straight into the washing machine to wash in just water...then some woolite goes in for a second wash and i select the extra rinse option....

I know they're not the same product, but when I found out it was a red formula, I thought of Meg's SD diluted. Works like a charm. Most pads don't last me but 6 months anyways. I rebuy twice a year.

XMT's is a similar APC as well..

Have you tried any of the pad cleaners? Which pads are you using?

Which pad cleaners are you talking about? I use Micro-Restore and WG's Pad Cleaner. And Meg's SD 10:1 to hand clean my EDGE pads. I'm using EDGE pads.

I personally use a mix of the DP and Dawn in a bucket and let the pads sit for about 1/2 hour, or until I'm done detailing. At that point, I rinse and spin on the PC, leaving them inside for an air dry.

I think I'm going to start soaking the MF in that same mixture now, then put them into the wash as I normally do, with Woolite and Dawn, then they go for another round with a half cup of woolite and extra rinse. What they guys said before couldnt be more true, completely clean MF is the key to success. lol.

Whoops, I was just wondering why you would change after 6 months, mine have lasted me 2 years. My Edge2k do need some conditoning.

I do a lot of polishing, and my pads go through some abuse. At least I used to replace Meg's velcro pads twice a year. EDGE pads feel of much better quality, but we'll see how they hold up.

Have you tried any other brands other than Meguiar's? Wondering in terms of cleaning the foam and durability. LC seem to clean easy with any routine.

I now use EDGE and like them a lot.

Just want to throw this in here. I tried something new today.

Took one of my 5gal. pails, added an ounce of Micro Restore, filled it with hot water, threw my Schmitt and MF towels in and let soak. Rinse them off with running water after a few hours and they are almost brand new. Really worked well.
