pad cleaning

IME APCs leave much more foam in a pad than designated pad cleaners - so they rinse out much easier with pad cleaners. This is why I don't recommend using DAWN or whatever is in your kitchen - because the stuff is quite hard to get out of pads 100%.

While it's easier to say "you don't need to buy this stuff" - if you've ever compared a dedicated pad cleaner, like BF to APC - you would see the BF stuff rinses out easier and just cleans better.

I have used dedicated pad cleaners before and IMO they didn't work that great. I feel its a marketing gimmick. The detailing world is full of hype and BS. I have never had a problem with an APC and IME it has always worked much better at removing spent compound and polish. You're going to rinse the pad thoroughly regardless so residue isn't an issue. If you use an APC at full strength then yeah you'd have to spend a little more time. Nothing a blast from a pressure washer or nozzle wont fix in a hurry.

I also use APC and my pressure washer to clean my pads. They come out nice and clean every time and have no issues with them.

I hand wash my pads using Dawn dishwashing detergent. I work the soap into the pads and then rinse them well....maybe a couple of times. I use hot water. Then I let the pads air dry after getting them as dry as possible rolling them up in a terry towel. It's worked for me for a long, long time.

Use liquid hand wash and soft water. Whats good for your skin its good and gentle for pads. Detergents are bit harsh.
