So I was poking around the original box of my PC7424, and found the big white polishing pad that came with it. Upon further inspection, I noticed that there is no washer on the pad. I also noticed that the backing of the pad is entirely plastic (where it would mate the the mounting nut). So, I'm trying to figure out if the pad came with a washer and I lost it, or it never came with one at all. Once again, this is the PC7424, not the Xp.

I'll let you know if mine has a washer when it gets here tomorrow. :D:dblthumb2::buffing:

I have an article on the white pad that comes with the new XP version. It's been so long since I opened a "new" 7424 or 7336 version that I don't remember if it came with a compression washer or not.

Big picture is you want to get a regular backing plate anyways you can use a variety of different pads. To be on the safe side, go to a hardware store and get a compression washer to use with the factory plastic backing plate as it certainly can't hurt and will probably help.

See these two articles,

Make sure the compression washer is installed on the threaded stud before attaching to the spindle of the Porter Cable DA Polisher

Does the compression washer have to be installed for all the backing plates or just the white foam pad?
