I received my new PC7424XP as a gift and the person ordering wasn't real knowledgable about this stuff so they bought the kit with the Pinnacle XMT cleaner and conditioner and the choose your own pads. The pads are 6.5 inch. I'm seeing alot of 6.5 hating on here. Are they really that bad?

I also wondered that if I post picture of my cars swirls, would you guys be able to suggest which pad to use, the yellow or white(I have both)? I thought I have read though that you can use either but if you go with the least aggressive (white) you will need to do more passes. I will be using Wolfgang Swirl Remover.

I got the kit at the end of July but I don't think I'll be able to use it until October.

Greg, congratulations on you new machine!

No hate for the 6.5" it's just that 5.5" pads work better on the older PC. Since you got a new PC you should be fine, but definitely get some 5.5", they'll do a better job.

Do a test spot with both pads and see what works better for you...pictures always help :)

the 5.5" pads "work better" cause they are smaller and lighter so whatever machine you are using it takes some of the stress off of it. there for it makes it look as if the smaller pads "work better". the smaller size and weight of the pads will allow you to apply alittle more pressure for corrective ability. also the even smaller pads 4" and 3" pads are for smaller areas on the vehicles that are hard to get to.

I got my PC with the 6.5" pads and they work fine. With that said I endend up getting the 5.5" pads and they work better. Like detailgod said, they let you apply more pressure for correcting ability. Plus they 6.5" pads are harder on the PC so idk how that would affect longevity of the machine. I would say use the orange pad for most corrections. I have 2 yellow pads and haven't had to use them yet. For removing most swirls I would use the orange pad but factors like paint hardness/softness, products used ect. does come into determining what pad to use. If you use a polish after removing the swirls use a white pad. Have fun and enjoy with your PC!

I used to have the regular 7424 and I used it once with an orange pad and Menzerna IP. This was in 2008. I no longer have it after a messy breakup where she claimed she didn't have it, yet I did not have it when I packed everything up.

Last year I had an auto body specialist buff the car with a rotary and he did a fantastic job (this guy is great with black). Other than that it's just been handwaxed.

Thanks for sharing guys.
