Mike,

Just purchased 2 weeks ago. Paint blemish on painted plastic trim panel on rear deck. Looks like a small palm print smudge. Have tried to polish out with NXT and spray detailer but w/o success. Afraid to have the dealer work on it! Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,

Since this is your first post to our forum....

Here's your picture of the paint blemish...

Looks pretty minor and very topical from the picture. The products you've tried to use to remove it won't work as they are not abrasive and in order to remove this you're going to have to abrade the paint to level it.

I agree trying to hire a local detailer is a crap shoot that you're likely to lose if the detailer in question doesn't hang out on a forum like this one. It's just to risky to trust they actually are up to speed with all the current technology and actually know what they are doing.

Here's what I tell everyone that contacts me via e-mail and PM's asking for help locating a qualified detailer, it's really simple especially if you're already registered with the forum.

Start a new or dedicated thread with a title like this,

Pro detailer wanted in Resume Speed, Iowa

Then in the body of the message explain what the issue is and what you need help with. Chances are good there's a forum member in your area that can tackle this paint blemish without screwing up the paint job on your car.

You can also check through this list for someone near you...

If you want to fix it yourself by hand or machine we can help you do that too....

Thanks Mike. I took your advice and posted on this forum seeking a DFW/Plano, TX area pro detailer. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks,
Danny

Check out Scottwax, he hangs out on quite a few detailing forums and does great work.

I agree.

I've known Scott via the forum world for 12 years and he was a VIP Detailer guest I invited to Meguiar's for a special Saturday Detailing Class back in 2004.

Scott is the third guy in from the right, I"m all the way to the right dressed in black and of course you can see Barry and Karen Meguiar in the picture too. Jimmy Buffit is in there as well as some other detailing personalities in the forum world.

He also attended my FIRST Meguiar's Roadshow Class in Dallas, Texax back in 2006.

He's an exceptional detailer and if anyone can fix this blemish he can. Do a Google Search for ScottWax.com and you'll find him. Tell him I say "hi".

Scott is a first class guy from all I have ever read regarding him on the forums. While I'm sure he could straighten this out easily, you could always try to learn a bit and tackle it yourself.

The steps would be to wash the car, clay the surface, and then machine polish it (or possibly step up to a compound ), if required.

Of course, you would have to invest maybe $300 to buy the products if you don't have a machine, etc... But, you will have them forever and will be able to detail your own car and remove most future minor paint blemishes/defects at home.

Since you just got a new car - and seem to care about the finish - this may be a good time to learn a bit about detailing. You can learn everything you need to know here and you will have that great feeling of "doing it yourself" when your done.
