Has anyone ever compared paint cleaning lotions to AIO products to compare and contrast the cleaning ability of different products?

I am interested in DG 501 vs OPTPoliseal vs P21s, Pinnacle, and Wolfgang Paint cleaners. I have a lot of experience with the first two but lack a good test vehicle at the moment to compare and contrast them.

Does a APC spritz pre wash take care of a lot of the same things the paint cleaners do?

Thanks in advice for any help

Chris

APC and a car wash will certainly remove a lot, probably all, of the wax or sealant on your car. However, it will not accomplish what a paint cleaner will.

A paint cleaner will clean the pores of the paint and may help fill/hide minor swirls and the like. An AIO will clean and wax.

It depends on what kind of cleaning you are referring to and the specific product. For example, P21s, Pinnacle and Wolfgang are chemical cleaners while something like Meguiars D151 is an abrasive AIO not dependent as much on chemical cleaners. All of these products will clean the paint but D151 will remove swirls through SMAT and the others will remove dirt and stains through chemical cleaners.

Then there are products like Meguiars M66 Quick Detailer that use DAT and chemical cleaners. How do you rank them? I don't know.

I would say to find something you like and use it often. :)

Sonax makes a fantastic paint cleaner, little pricy but well worth it.....Sonax Premium Paint Cleaner.

So it seems that in the time it takes to use a dedicated paint cleaner I could get a little correction with some D151 and get an improved finish

A paint cleansing lotion is often a chemical based cleaner possibly with some fillers. An AIO often has abrasives (polishing effect) in it in addition to cleaners and protection. Really quite different IMO>

D151 is my go to AIO. Works really well and you can remove a good amount of swirls with it. I do follow up with a sealant..even though it is an AIO...i still like a dedicated sealant or wax to finish it up :)

:iagree: Meguiar's D151 over a "paint cleaner" any day of the week....:props:

It depends what you are trying to do. You can't say you only use PC's or AOI's. they both have their place.

If I have a car that isn't in need of correction, but I am going to wax I would use a paint cleaner. This will make sure that the surface is as clean as possible before I lay down my protection, which will bond better due to the cleaner surface. Also a paint cleaner takes no time at all to apply since it doesn't have to break down or remove any imperfections in the paint. Most of the time it's close to being a wipe on wipe off affair.

I generally don't use AIO's a lot since I like dedicated protection products, but the one's I do use with good results are Autoglym Super Resin Polish, OPT Poli-Seal, and Jeff Werkstat Prime Strong. Both products with do very minor correction (think like PO85 or Ultrafina), clean the paint like a traditional paint cleaner, and lay down some protection. When it comes to the protection though it's not usually up to par with most normal LSP's. So even when I use these products I always add another layer of protection just to be on the safe side.

So I don't think it's ever going to be one or the other, you just have to find the proper use for each type of product.
