I’ve been reading on his forum about staying away from black colors. Bummer. We are buying a new truck and I wanted the black metallic. Our old Search and Rescue/Sheriff truck was black but that was the one stage paint, so no clear coat. I was hoping having a black metallic with a clear coat would be easier. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem to be the case. So.......
I was thinking of a darker red or the vibrant blue both have clear coats. The truck will be garaged but I live on the coast so I get salt air, salt grime and lots of rain. I don’t want white because it’s too bright for my eyes (I have a rare eye cancer). And we’ve had silver and dark gray trucks so I want something different.
so....my choices are
1) black metallic
2) darker ruby fed
3) Velocity blue

I don’t want to set myself up for failure but I REALLY wanted black so we could do a Black Ops vehicle, but I can’t spend days detailing.
Thoughts? Tips? Advice?
thanks!!

While I'll always be an advocate for black, I really like cars with actual colors rather than the same boring white/silver/gray/black paint which seems to dominate the market and the roads these days. I really wanted my current car to be blue, but there wasn't a single blue one in the entire country with the options I wanted, so I ended up with another black car.

Blue is one of my favorite colors, so it would be my first choice, but I have seen some really nice ruby reds out there. I don't think you could loose either way.

I kept a black car but when it was time to get a new car, I went blue. Specifically, Honda’s Belize Blue. It’s basically my favorite color. My car will be ten years old this coming August and I have no plans of replacing it. Love the color on the lines of the car.

What truck are you looking to purchase? I love Black vehicles, but they're a full time job keeping them clean. They look awesome though when fully detailed.

Since your 1st choice is black metallic, that's the route I'd go. Black with metallic in it is infinitely easier to maintain than straight black. The metallic does a great job and camouflaging dust and minor swirls.

Straight black is in a class of it's own when it comes to maintenance. No other color, including black metallic, even come close.

Any advice to stay away from black is in reference to straight black... And straight black is the only true black in my opinion.

I've owned 2 black vehicles in my life and after the experience, I would only own a black car if it were my "toy". That is garage-kept, and NOT a daily driver.

It's a lot of work to maintain a black daily driver IF your expectations for finish quality are really high.

1) black metallic
2) darker ruby fed
3) Velocity blue

Out of the above 3 choices I'd go for the Velocity Blue.

Blue always seems to showcase chrome trim the best in my opinion.

We have a Toyota Tacoma right now. Not thrilled with it. We are going to get a 2020 Ford F-150 Lariat, 4x4 super cab with a Shell for all our equipment. I wanted the black out appearance package too so that on a metallic black would be bad ass, but my health is declining so I’m afraid I won’t be able to keep it clean.

Right now I think Ford's Velocity Blue and ruby red paint are some of the best looking paint colors on any car by any manufacturer. And I'm not a fan of Ford products!

Ruby Red is gone in 2020 model years, it sure was a great color

Yep,nice color but imho missing the lil extra pop of RR, my neighbor has a '19 Magma Red which is a really cool color. The local dealer just got in a Velocity Blue with the blacked out trim and I really liked it, I'm waiting on when and how different the 2021 is before I order one

I know what you mean about real red. We are with the Fire Department so we see red all the time. Maybe that’s why I’m leaning towards blue, LOL! I also really want a clear coat.

If it was me that REALLY wanted black,
then I’d get black. After all:
