I recently buffed a 1994 Mustang GT. The paint was in real bad shape. Swirls and whitesh looking water spots on dark green paint. I started with PB's SSR1 and then PB's SSR2.5. Whitish spots came back though. I used these with a orange LC pad. I then went local and got some Meguairs #4 Heavy Cut Cleaner with a yeallow LC pad and most of this came up. I have
gone over the hood with the heavy cut and yellow pad 5 times. I even tried white distilled vinegar 50/50 with water when I washed and some of this whitish stuff is still there. Are there some problems that just cannot be corrected? The car looks like glass. I went on and stepped back down from SSR2.5 to SSR1 and finished with EX. Looks great except that white
ghost that will not go away.

You sure it isn't the clear coat fading away or chips? I see that all the time, not cars I do, but now that I look at cars closely! But most I ntoice have big blotches coming off, but imagine they start wee little.

Are you saying clear coat failure? This looks like water spots. The pattern
is very much like that. It is only on horizonal panels. None on vertical panels.
I am thinking it may be mineral etching. That is why I tried the vinegar. There
was a bird dropping etching that will not come up. The whitish stains are
the same. You buff your arse off and it is still there. I was afraid to keep
using the Meg#4. I was waiting to see the pigment start coming off on the
pad. I did not want to do that!

Yeah. I can't help, I was merely speculating, Cause if they were water spots or contamination, what you did would have at least removed some of it, don't you think so?

This is a first for me. I have buffed some pretty faded cars out to a nice
finish. This one is making me crazy. The owner is happy. He thought it was
past the point of return. You cannot see it from 5 feet back. You have to be
right over it and there it is.

Does it look anything like this?

What is that? CC failure? And what causes it? and is repaint your only solution? :) thanks

That is definately clear coat failure as I have seen it before. Repaint is the
only fix that I know of.

:iagree: C.C.F.......

Belcherm your description sounds similar to mine. You could in fact have CCF.
The picture I posted was not from my car is was found on the net.
The really shitty thing is, is my car is only a like two years old. Bought it Brand New.

Could be damage from insect droppings.... If they are the size of a pin head.... exactly what I think I might have... Tried XMT 1/2/3, clay, Klasse AIO, you name it...no luck...Did you eventually get them off? If so how?

Just noticed I have something similar on my front bumper, pretty sizeable and it sucks because my car is 2 months old today.

I washed the car and it would not come off for nothing. If its CCF failure will it spread or does it stay contained to that area?

Will polish and sealant keep in in check from further damage? There's no way I'm repainting. I can post pictures at a later date if anyone needs to see.

Definatly not clear cote failure on mine..... Unless my two cars both had clear cotes that decided to fail the same week....
