Wasn't sure what topic to put this thread under but I was doing one of my friends car today an I noticed that they had what almost looked like large, I'm gonna say alot like chicken pox scars, in the paint

Never seen this before, and they have depth to them as well, not like water spots I've seen or anything. I'll upload pics soon

Just went to go take pics but there's dust and dog hair all over it. So no pics yet.

But there like finger tip sizes inverse plateaus in the paint with water spot shapes edges if that clarifies at all

Wondering if it's just bad old paint

super deep.
lol
and they dont look like they have hard edges or anything idk just weird
dunno how they got there

Inverted finger-tip plateaus? Hell, I'm interested! Pictures when you can please.

Yeah, chicken pox scars...there's one consolation, it can't get chicken pox again.

Those marks are from various things getting on the paint (bird poop, tree sap, hot dog relish) and not getting cleaned off, resulting in those etch marks. Reasons to wash your car frequently. Or it could just be a crappy repaint that didn't flow out right or got fingertip inverse plateaus in it before it was cured.

lol cant tell me its not what it looks like
it was like that after a buff job, after we bought it but wasnt like that before, guess just couldnt tell before hand due to shitty care taking

and way to get it out

Yeah, when you don't wash often, you don't notice the stuff on there that causes the etching, and then after you wash it, the whole surface looks crappy and you don't really notice it until you polish it up nice and then you see the craters...sometimes polishing will improve them but sometimes it's too deep...there are cases where it's best to only look at the car from 10' away--I bet it looks great then!

Baha I baby the thing it was done before it was bought.

Think a good glaze like black hole might help?

And ya what my dad says he's like just step back and look at it as a non perfectionist, it looks good it's a rx7 people are gonna love it either way so don't worry too much. Haha and it your right from 3 foot back it looks perfect that's the only paint defect :/ lol

Yeah, I know you said it was the previous owner (people don't realize what they are doing to their paint, but what do they care? they can't see this stuff anyway, it's like invisible to them), and no, IMO, a glaze won't do anything for them they are too deep.

They kinda look like fisheyes in the paint or filler cratering... (I have experienced this I have an 84 Vette that when I bought it it looked great but about 6 months (interestingly enough after I stripped the wax off of the car to redo it correctly) these little marks started showing up on the hood in one small patch, so I spoke to the prev owner and he said that there had been some minor body work done there about 2 weeks before I got the car he had waxed it before I got it)

The filler cratering is not very common but does happen... it is when the body filler is put on then the paint is shot before the filler has completely dry... Add w wax coating over the fresh paint and vwala it does not allow it to off gas or dry... - this was told to me by a very reputable body guy I have known for years...

Agreed!! I would recommend have a profession spot paint it, that's if it bothers you that much. The enzymes in the bird droppings and bugs tend to do that to paint if it's removed.
