Paint imperfections in new Explorer

I bought a 2007 Explorer about a month ago. I was in my garage last night giving it a waxing and noticed alot of "trash" under the paint on the hood. I could see the outline of 1/4" fibers under the color. I will try to post some pictures tonight. They are definately under the color. I called the dealer and he said it couldn't be under the color coat and he would send it out to be clayed and buffed. There are probably over couple dozen spots on the hood alone. I haven't been able to check the rest of the vehicle yet. Have you guys seen new vehicles with this problem before.

Also, it feels rough without the plastic bag but is it too new to clay & polish. What is a good polish for brand new vehicles.

ya...i saw a brand new 07 gti....and you could see sand marks everywhere..and they are deep....the car companys just dont care anymore

Just because it's new doesn't mean you shouldn't clay. This is actually the best time to clay because if you don't remove the contaniments now, they'll jsut get worse later ... ie rust spots

If your Explorer was shipped via rail you have the typical "rail dust" on your vehicle. Even if it were transported on a truck and sat on a lot it'll still pick up junk.

it may not have came from factory like that. cars will get damage during shipping and before they make it to a dealership they have been at a bodyshop getting repainted. dealership never knows. body shop i work at just did complete repaints on a brand new 08 lexus. still had all paper work in windows and everything. came from shipping yard

If it has been repainted, is it normal than for dust and small fibers to have been left on the surface before painting or was that just a crappy body shop. I guess my question is, should I take it in and risk having it come out of the Ford body shop worse than it is. The Ford dealer closest to me (Lancaster, CA) gave me the name of the body shop they use for warranty repairs and the owner of that body shop told me that a paint job will never be as good as a factory paint job and that I would have to decide for myself if it would be worth bringing in. The Ford dealer I bought it from in LA (Vista Ford) does have their own body shop. Who do I trust?

Thanks for the info about claying on a new vehicle. I will go ahead and clay it now to get the contaminates off and get a good sealant on it and figure out what to do about the trash.

Here are a few photos of the "trash" I am talking about. To me they look like fibers under the color coat. Most are about 1/4" long. some are longer, maybe 7/16" or so. The last picture is of what I am assuming brake dust that needs to be removed with clay. Am I right on that one?
