Paint polishes on headlight????

Ive seen people use paint polish on headlight whats the consensus around here? I plan to use Wolfgang finishing glaze with a white pad. The car is a 2009 tiguan and i just want to refresh them no major yellowed or fogged.

It is perfectly fine with the polish you are using. It also isn't aggressive enough to remove the factory coating. I would suggest putting a coating over it ie, Opti-lens or OC.

I did the same thing recently using a 3" Griots Garage polisher with a 3" GG orange pad and WG Finishing Glaze on a pair of fairly new headlights. The headlights were in good condition, no yellowing, just wanted to give them a light polish to clean and remove any dirt and road grime before I applied a coating on the lenses.

I removed some pretty heavy oxidation on a pair of '02 Accord lenses with Wolfgang Uber Compound and a Cyan Hydrotech. A polish is less aggressive than wet sanding so that is where I would start when a restoration is needed. For a coating prep, WFG would work. I would want to make sure the oils are removed before applying the coating.
 
I just did a set over the weekend, uber on a foamed wool with a Flex.

Wow!! Beautiful!! All with the Flex...way cool!!! Thanks for the show as I have a Flex too!! But Paint polishes are just fine with cleaning headlights IMO as they are the same concept. The clear coat is no good any more on the headlight covers and need polishing or wet sanding similar to a cars paint.

Megs 105/205 or Menzerna PF 2500 and SF 4500. But with a Flex?? You have way bigger kahunas than I do!!! I will stick with my GG 3"...I am afraid I would eat through the lens and headlight with the Flex!!....LOL

All I know is Ultimate compound applied with an orange foam pad produces swirls on the headlight.

These things are easy to scratch, so don't do what I did.

I think each car really varies in regards to headlights marring. On my 2014 Mercedes C250 I can marr/swirl the headlights with M205 on a black finishing pad. But on my grandmother's 1999 Toyota Corolla I use UC on a 3" MF cutting disk and get a perfectly clear light after. So just like paint, it really varies.
 
First, thanks for the props!

I purchased the Mothers kit from AZ to try that out. Comes with a blue foam powerball and lens restorer liquid. I found it splattered all over. Looking up most of the kits, they come with a thin wool pad or orange pad for your drill. I went foamed wool with the Uber to make the heavy work quick, then followed with the liquid that came with the headlight restore kit. You could probably do the same with a smaller DA but you can't put much pressure would be my guess or the unit would stall out. I need to get some opti-lens to coat as I am not sure how long the Mothers stuff will protect.
 
I had the same issue... fixed it by using a green ccs pad with ultimate polish
