2011 Ram, brand new, just returned from its second trip to the body shop to repair factory paint that had metal flake in places standing up as apposed to laying correctly, creating 8" splotches in the paint under the clear.

The paint looks good from 10', however there are places where the following is observed, some under normal light conditons, some under high intensity lighting.

Missing paint no bigger than an inch on the body lines, where paint was buffed through.

A couple of minor chips, one in the clear coat, one under the clear where it was touched up an cleared over the top of.

Black window trim dulled by the buffer in spots.

Crome door handles with micro scratches on them.

Discolored paint just below door handle, possibly cracked paint from reassembly, 1" long.

Spotty dirty looking paint under clear, only visible under high intensity lighting.

A 1'x1' area where the shop said fumes got under the bag, and caused discoloration, almost looks like water spoting, shop re-buffed area and it looks better, but under high intensity lighting you can still see it. This is new paint.

Micro scratches on most of the repaired paint.

The question is is this what I should be happy with? is this normal for a repair job?

Or am I just being too anal?

Thanks

A brand new truck or car should have very near flawless paint. I can see
a few dealer installed swirls from their shoddy prep. Some orange peal
is to be expected. But the things you're describing are far from acceptable.

agreed..give them 3 diff times to correct it on 3 diff repair orders within a year and lemon law it....

I'd be real interested in see what this looks like in a photo because I'm considering looking for a used Dodge truck (maybe)..

If your refering to the factory paint, I have no pic's.
I have only heard of the problem on silver (mine), and three other trucks that were mineral gray. I believe they were all 2011's
The vehicle has to be in direct sunlite, any other light source will not work. If you look at the paint at an angle you may see bright spots under the clear coat where the metal flake does not lay flat, and refects in the sun. I had what appeared like a tape line approx 4" long on my door panel. On my hood and quarter panel I had two spots each approx 8" in diameter. Hope this help's you.

If your not happy with your vehicle go and see the service director and ask him to contact the factory rep for that dealership and ask for a meeting with the factory rep show the rep the problems you need to step it a notch if your not happy . If the service director won't make the call I'm sure there is a 1-800 number you can call and they will direct you to the proper person trust me car manufacturer take customer complaints very serious you just need to get in touch with the correct person . I've been in the automotive field a long time I deal with this almost every day .

I have spent 3 months dealing with the chrysler complaint dept to get to this point.
I just wasn't sure if the quality of work received is all I should expect, apparently I should
pursue it further. The finish is definatley not as good as the original.

The body shop had said they would not repaint any panels unless there was more money authorized. Which would lead me back to chrysler.

In today's auto atmosphere, car companies are bending over backwards to make their customers happy so yes, by all means you should attempt to have this problem fixed.
