I'm planning on fixing the deep scratches and chips, an gashes in the paint on my s10 this summer. This is my plan:

I'm going to correct and fiberglass the major dents it received from the guardrail this winter, color match, and clear coat. I'm also going to fill in all of the deep and minor scratches, chips, etc. with the dupli-color color match scratch repair pens, and clear coat. Then I will wait about 6-8 days for all of the paint to cure, and smooth all of the repairs with 1500-2000 grit sandpaper--> polish, seal and wax.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Any advice, or critics of my plan is welcome.

:dunno:

Fiberglass major dents? I'd recommend pulling the dents and then cheese what you can't get out or shop a boneyard for a used panel. Also, if you haven't worked with body filler before it'll take some time building up and sanding, stick with thin coats. What color is the truck?

I would recommend expresspaint.com for your color match needs. Duplicolor has a pretty poor match and fades quickly. I did some repairs using expresspaint.com and the match was and is still perfect. Just something to think about.

^ Is paint for European cars available with dr. color chip touch up kit?

The Truck is a pewter color. I should have put that I was gonna pull the dents a bit, but finish them with fiberglass. I found with my bronco II that pulling the dents works ok, but a sheet or two of fiberglass helps to smooth and make it look like it was never damaged.

Thanks, I've heard duplicolor was a bit on the poor side over the ling term.

I've never heard of using fiberglass on metal. I've used All Metal filler which doesn't shrink, and I've gotten perfect results. I fixed dents in my decklid with it. I used an abrasive wheel to remove the paint and scuff it, then used metal prep, then applied the All Metal. I went as thick as I could per coat. I built it up a little higher than the surrounding area, then finished it almost totally level with the cheese grater type tool, 12 inches long. Then I took a long sanding block about 18 inches long or so, with 80 grit, then worked my way up to 600 grit, then metal prepped the surrounding area again, then primed it, and later painted it. When I was done, the area was perfection. Best bodywork on the whole car. :)
