Hey guys,

I am going to be a performing a full paint restoration for the first time and would like a little bit of advise.

I am fine with washing, claying, compounding and polishing but would like to ask is there any benefit from applying a paint sealant and then a wax

Now I would always apply protection to the car but is there any need to apply a sealant and a wax?

I have Pinnacle Sovereign Paste Wax and I’m not sure if I should apply a sealant before applying the wax. What are the benefits if any?

Many Thanks
Jay

Sealants are typically more durable than a wax, therefore applying a sealant as a base layer provides longer protection because once the wax wears away there is still a layer of sealant remaining.

If you're OK with waxing your vehicle every couple of months, then it is not a big deal... I personally use a sealant and no wax most of the time on customer vehicles that aren't being coated.

Wax after sealant may give you additional benefits to both looks and durability over sealant alone. Or it might be a waste of time, its really difficult to measure both of those qualities.

I like to use Megs NXT and now UW and top it with M26.

Usually 2 coats of sealant and then 2 coats of M26.

12 to 24 hours between coats of sealant then then the same for M26.

Here in Seattle I never use wax really most of year. Unless they ask for it as a topper or it's a show car.

I use DP Poliseal, let it cure overnight, then a coat of DP Max Wax. As others have said, I think this gives an extra layer of protection, in case I don't get to wax as often as I like.

I always go with a sealant and top with a durable wax as a LSP. I do this to our daily drivers twice a year....once before winter to protect it through the winter and once in the spring to get it ready for summer.

In between I do maintenance washes and use a QD as I dry.

Best combo for me to get a quality result with what time I have.
