Afternoon. I've been lurking on here and learning what I can and have been picking up lots of tips and trick etc but even after countless hours of searching and reading my question still really remains. My daily is a 2010 dodge ram crew in metallic black and I work as a crushing foreman so it goes through some pretty extreme duty when at work. It is also more or less my toy when home it's programmed etc so I am quite partial to the truck and try to keep the trucks paint in the best shape as time and work will allow. There are days at work when it will leave literally a shade of grey caring a thick layer off crusher dust on the paint. This unfortunately is a hazard of the job and I've been in very successful in keeping the truck in pretty good condition. I generally use over the counter products. But would like to try a sealer this year and opti coat is off course on my radar as is the ultima selection. My question is which sealer is going to hold up best to high pressure tunnel washes. I have not Mutch choice but to frequent these if my paint has any chance to survive as I am on the road 4 days at a time. When I'm home the truck gets a two bucket boars hair brush wash etc. Any suggestions. I only have some crappy cell phone photos but you'll get the idea.

There are soo many options. I guess what ever one you choose will suit your needs. The wolfgang paint sealant suited my needs but if you are planning on keeping your vehicle for a substantial amount of time then I would invest your time and money and look into coatings. This is obviously my opinion so dont let my response dictate your option........
PM me if you would like to talk further

Opti coat it. Nothing else will offer near the protection. Around 100x thicker than any wax or sealant.

I agree a coating would be your best option. However, you'll want to go easy on the washing for the first month (30 days).

So far, the pinnacle black label diamond surface coating has been very good for me. It's plus is that it can be applied to glass, paint, and wheels, so it's a very versatile product that actually does very well at holding dust at bay. I have a challenger in the dodge brilliant black, so I understand your pain there. It is very easy to clean and would be a boon to you needing to pressure wash, as the dirt, bugs and especially bird poop release very easily from the surface. Sheets water like it's allergic to it. Beads well too, but I prefer great sheeting as there is less drying involved and fewer water spots to worry about.

The con is it's too new to gauge longevity, and the aforementioned needing to wait 30 days or so to really get down and dirty washing it. After a week or so, a light wash is possible, but I wouldn't attack it with 4000 psi and a heavy detergent. It's also not as simple to apply as many sealants, takes a bit more work in the finishing step to buff off high spots.

Barring that, if you want a good sealant that'll go a few months, is really easy to apply, won't stain trim, is simple to wipe off, and is very readily available, look no further than Meguiars ultimate wax. It's actually a sealant, not a traditional wax and has been doing a very good job at protecting my wife's SUV for the last month that gets parked outside. It's available at any parts store, Wal-Mart, target, etc.

The other forum favorite would probably be collinite 845, but I have no first hand experience, so I'll let others recommend that.

I've been using mequiars ultimate all last season. Actually I've been a mequiars fan forever. I agree there ultimate line has been great. But I'm always in search of something better I guess with less maintenance. I don't have enough free time in the summer it seems (who does ) and although I enjoy detailing my vehicles ( find it almost therapeutic really) less maintenance would be great. The high detergents in the before mentioned coin operated or touch less washes are what I need the coating to stand up to the most. I have no choice but to run through these ounce a week to keep my sanity I travel sometimes 3 hours from home for work on the road and hate travelling with a dirty truck. And the slicker it is with the least amount of dust retention is best. UPGP and OC 2.0 are top on my list. The GTechniq EXO is also up for consideration. I'm not a stranger to dual action polishing and have used my porter cable with Ultimate compound and ultimate polish in the past with success. Thanks guys. Keep the suggestions if any more coming. I'll add the pinnacle has intrigued me as well but there's no way I could go 30 days without a wash ounce back in crushing season witch is when I would be applying the sealant. I'd go out if my mind.

If you want to stick with a sealant (rather than a coating) and find that on occasion you need to use a commercial wash you might want to consider Menzerna Powerlock--great look, easy on and off, very slick and very durable. A member here (can't remember who) did some testing and found there was no chemical short of highly acid wheel cleaner that could remove it from the paint surface. So it would hold up well to strong detergents.

I guess coating is more what I'm considering then I guess. Is the menzerna easy to work with ?

A duragloss sealant of your choice, two coats, or collinite and you're golden.
If you want to be sure it'll last just coat it with opti coat or cquartz like other people have mentioned.

Opti coat or EXO is looking more like it's going to be my choice. I watched some videos and read some more reviews on powerlock. Some good some ok. I guess the opti coat or EXO would be my best bet, it would allow me to get my therapeutic fix with a topper as time allows me, and if I get busy a proper wash will at least leave my paint protected.
Thanks

coating would be your best bet. either opt-coat, or GTechniq C1 with EXO over top. i personally use GTechniq products. Their coatings line are hard to beat
