Pan the Organizer product line...let's discuss@

To me it looks like EC and Jamie the Cleaner have a choice to make. They can come out with their own video distancing themselves from the comments made by Pan in the awards video. Or they can stick with Pan and suffer the consequences.

With this awards video Pan has shown himself to be first and foremost a self serving products peddler. Then on top of it attempted to defend his actions which to many were blatantly clear thereby alienating further many of his casual viewers.

Of course he has many defenders that hang on Pans every word. They appear to have blinders on and seem to want to appoint Pan to sainthood. It will be interesting to see if Pan attempts to backpeddle from this catastrophe and come out with another video attempting to spin this whole situation.
Well said, not mean but factual

His "spin doctoring" is his current video. An opinion is one thing but sit up here and say every single one of your products is best because YOU think it is because you've been testing it for monthes and monthes is ridiculous

Oh, I haven't really looked at Pan's line, I didn't realize he had a spray polish. You know that OCW was Optimum's first product, it was originally called Sun Wax, and that was way before Yvan was there.

Yvan was just a detail shop owner up there in Montreal, and became a big user of OPT products, and as usually happens at Optimum, he got the ear of Dr. G for a while (Dr. G is a chemist, not a detailer, and relies on detailers for direction and feedback, longer story than that). Apparently Dr. G was sick for a while and Yvan and Dann wound up steering the ship for a couple years, and during that time Yvan sold his business because he was so involved with OPT. When Dr. G got better he didn't like the port the ship had wound up in, and parted ways with Yvan and Dann.

At least that's what I've pieced together from the Optimum forum, etc.
Wow...can you elaborate on the "port" a little further, inquiring minds would like to know

I think you guys are being too hard on these YouTubers, I believe they think their products are the best, they selected/refined them to be exactly what they want, what they think is best in that particular type of product. And as noted, they have developed rabid followers who will believe it, too. Such is the way of the world today.

I respect your opinion because it's yours and well stated but in this situation, yours and the other 2 partners are in the mix, it's just not an awards show anymore, it's a commercial and I don't need to watch a commercial trying to "pan itself off" as something legit

Brian from Apex doesn't do this, sure he uses his products but he's running a detail shop, makes sense and cents

Well, as I alluded to, OPT is a weird company in that Dr. G isn't a detailer, isn't a car guy (seemingly), he's a chemist, and I guess when he was working at PPG on clearcoats, got the idea to put the UV inhibitor that's used in clearcoat into a wax, so it could "refresh" the paint and extend the life of the clearcoat. So he started his own company and got a patent on SunWax.

But he has always relied on customers of his who are detailers to give him ideas on what products would fill a niche in the market, etc. It's just a little backwards I think from how other companies work, where the chemist or head guy knows what kind of products he wants, and relies on detailers to beta test, etc.

Anyway, no one remembers this but Optimum was making a bed-liner spray for pickup trucks, while Yvan was there, which he was hawking. I don't know what else was going on, but Dann was doing a Optimum podcast with Yvan, which when the two of them got separated, was no longer available, even though they had 60 episodes or something in the can. I'm saying the separation wasn't amicable. Dann was another guy who was a detailer/customer and wound up being West Coast sales manager for OPT. These two guys were the online face of Optimum, between the podcast and YouTube, and then poof, they were both gone, Yvan had decided to "retire", yet within a month he popped up with Nick at M37 and I can't remember how many others before starting DIY.

DISCLAIMER: This is just my observations of things, and some things dropped here and there on the Optimum forum, I can't guarantee that all/any of this is correct.

I'm not disagreeing. I tried to watch one of EC's vids, I just scanned through, but when he got to his rinseless where he said it was in the top 3 "in the world", he said it was because "I made it that way". And I thought that was sincere, that after using and critiquing a lot of RW, he had one formulated that was what he thought the perfect one should be.

That said, once you start making your own product, you aren't doing reviews of it, you're doing commercials. Does that cast a shadow over prior reviews? Maybe. I'll note I have mentioned forum members Garry Dean and Cory "sky's the limit" who stopped participating here once they started their own lines/distributorships, so as not to create any conflicts (I don't know if they were asked not to participate, or if they volunteered).

I recall many years ago getting a sample of SunWax. I don't recall it being special.

Attempted damage control. The awards video has been taken down.
Glad I got a chance to see it last night. I just started to skip around every time he mentioned his products. It's a shame to see another one of these guys go down this road. It was hard to take him serious the last couple of years but this I think is the final nail in the coffin.

Welcome to AG, what year GTO you got

Seems pretty legit and your right, Ivan was a hired gun for a while and I was like WTF is this all about! I have to say he too rubbed me the wrong way, differently but I'll say this, every DIY product I ever tried has been great and I've been a repeat customer on everything I've tried too.

Now as far as a product goes, if I had the means I'd love to have a spray product, like my own "FrankenDetailer" for instance but I've got no chemistry background but I am a massive car guy and avid backyard detailer, so I know what I want and would find someone to help me, the opposite of Dr. G

And the hype is attempted to be built.

Should say have no intention of buying any of the new Clean products, not that I have anything against Pan but I already have more good detailing products than I need. Which leads me to my point.

The consumer detailing market is somewhat limited. After all the average person does not care about detailing their car and many don't even wash their own vehicles. In opposition to that the market seems to be flooded with all types of detailing products. Just look how many rinseless washes are available and the average Joe discussed above doesn't even know rinseless wash exists. It seems impossible that all these product peddlers could possibly prosper or even survive in such a market. Considering all this I am wondering about the feasibility of launching a boutique brand in an already saturated market.
I think this is a natural marketing progression for YouTube detailers and personalities in general. First, you have to build an audience and establish your credibility and reputation. Then you introduce a product line. I think they do it for a few reasons. 1) so they don't solely have to rely on YouTube revenue which can fluctuate and has a bit of uncertainty. 2). You don't have to constantly make videos and have another revenue stream. If it gets super successful you may not need YouTube. It also allows for content and related marketing.

I agree with what many have said here in general. Find good products and focus on using those. There are many on the market.

Lmao. Damn you’re spot on with that description of the dude!
Absolutely, the guy could be the best detailer in the universe but I can't get 15 seconds into any of his videos so none of his awesomeness matters

Pan removed his best of 2024 video. The comments were brutal.

You really need your own YouTube channel, you can do car show videos, detailing instruction and reviews, and then start your own line of FrankenShine products, except I guess you have to give member BLM 1 cent/bottle for tweaking your line name.

Think about it, seriously.

I eat, sleep and drink cars...all of them! I'd love to interview people about their cars, kinda like Larry Chen for example. I absorb info quickly but I'm not book smart but I've got a Masters in PASSION!

I was a guest on a fairly successful podcast starting about 5 years ago, does that count
