The project is a 2005 Black 4Runner 165K miles. I am the second owner. In Chagrin Falls Ohio. Read that as winter conditions. My daily driver. Kept in a garage at home. Here it sits after I removed license plates and hood wind deflector.

I judge the paint to be in good condition save swirls, rids, some "stuff" I am not even going to worry about and multiple poor touch ups. Oh brother what am I getting myself into....

10 from 10 is the goal.

The pics of the wheel? Are you asking a question or showing everyone how a wheel looks that hasn't been properly cared for?

Glad you weren't offended. Hope to see you around!

Looks pretty bad, have fun making it new again!

Both... I'll get it as good as I can, any recommendations along the way would be greatly appreciated.

With respect to the wheel, I have sourced some refinished oem wheels for little out of pocket with the return of my core. The caps I have found new from stealer. Fairly certain I will not go this route... It is a driver, However, I may pick up a second set and relegate the current wheels to dedicated snow tires.

The one picture looks like you are missing the "T" in Toyota. I would remove all the badges if I were missing a letter. I think it gives the car a clean look too.

This is what happens when you hit a GOOSE at 70mph. I hope to clean this up. Probably the worst of it, along with the bumper "stuff".

All the badges are intact, I am concerned that if I were to remove badges there would be ghost images that remain behind. Not part of the plan I don't think.

The ghosting of the emblems buffs out well. You'll never see they were there after a compounding or heavy polish.

:iagree:

I have done it on cars much older than 2005. Your compounding will erase anything. The additional step is very easy and quick. Hair dryer (heat), old credit card or fishing line, adhesive remover or goo gone after removal if residue left. I did my door guards and so glad I did.

Dawn wash done. Then on to Trix, iron and tar remover. Thought you might like to see action pics before I clay. Bagy test says much better.

I think I'll do my test section here front and center on the hood. the abrasion is from the wind reflector. Is this a good idea or should I pick a more average spot?Feed back please

Thanks Bobby! How do you feel about test spot? Any ol'place or something representative of the best or worst? I value your opinion.:xyxthumbs:

Thank you!

Test spots are OH so important to plan your attack!

I'd like to do a test spot mostly on horizontal surfaces. They tend to exhibit the most serious defects from rain, airborne debris, and swirls. They are also the first ones that the eye sees and certainly the easiest to work with.

Today's task was clay...either i did something wrong, the finish was not too bad or the Trix really did its job? Here are the results.....

Pic after 1/2 of hood completed.

Clay looked pretty darn clean over most of the car. Smooth like butter in a baggy.:xyxthumbs:

Let the polishing begin...

The test spot front center on hood. Abrasions from wind deflector are much improved. I can still see them under a 10x-18mm optical loop. However, to the naked I they look gone. Swirls all gone under loop. Small pitting is visible via loop. IS1500 yellow pad,SF4500 white pad. I felt like the orange/1500 was not aggressive enough to tackle the heavy "stuff".
