Parking in Public Places

I tend to park far away from other cars and trees in order to avoid bird droppings on the paint and idiots opening their doors hitting my car (It happened to me once, I was inside the car)

I am glad my thoughts opened up a good discussion.
On that note, you know those massive parking complexes where they got like 12 stores spread all around, well i was going to Lowes and parked so far away that my wife asked me if me were going to Petco, hahaha

Great Avalon-
Actually i live in Philly, but I can't go to see Luke in August and the show in Holmdel NJ was sold out, so Bristow is the next closest spot.

I park so far away, sometimes it's faster if I just walk to the destination from my house.

This is hilarious

Basically, every car has a driver (for now) but not always a passenger. Most pull in forward (and not reverse in, save for some people who shouldn't be reversing into spots and do a 12 point turn to get into a spot) so parking on the most right side of a parking lot and parking space should minimize danger to your car (though children in the back come from both sides and are usually the ones who will ding your car the most).

There is also other strategies on it, rating different spots for how well they protect your car. Like parking on the upslope instead of downslope of the parking lot. Some people can't manage gravity very well and it will assist them in dinging your car.

Large venues are always dangerous no matter what though. Last night at a 5K my girlfriend was running in (she drove) had people parked so close to each other that there was no way people didn't hit the car next to them when they got out. Then you have people walking between the cars rubbing against them potentially scratching.

If you can find a spot like
homedepotspace.jpg
you should be good though.

What an awesome site!

If she thinks you are crazy for parking far away and you are driving her vehicle, then don't worry so much; it's her vehicle. Just don't park next to minivans and big ole' pick up trucks that sits 2' off the ground. Try and get parking on the end where you only have one car next to you. Get to the concert early to get prime spot choices.
Agreed.

No I won't take 2 spots..on purpose I do find though that if the spot is not where I can back my bed up over a curb or something, I do end up taking up 2 spots, nature of the beast I guess.

I park as far away from cars as I can get,not to listen to my wife complain I drop her off if front of the store. I have always done that,in my younger days when I was a lot angrier,I had a red Mustang GT '90' someone was a wise guy and parked there hooptee right on top of it where u couldn't open the door to get in. I had been dating my future wife for maybe 2 years, she saw the fire in my eyes,we'll I couldn't controll myself and kicked in their door! As I turned around the owner and his girlfriend saw me do it,ugh,me being 6'3" 230lbs nothing was said to me. Never screw with a mans pride & joy

Not one of my brightest moves,I've grown up since then. About a year later that car saved my life as a drunk driver ran a red light and tboned the drivers door. Spun me around a few times and only stopping as I took out the traffic light pole.

In grocery store parking lots that have a slight grade, I park uphill to avoid the runaway carts.

Pay attention to wind as well. It will catch a door of some1 who is opening their car and just lets it bang into yours. :awman:

Very nice, park safe and enjoy it man! And I'm sure you know but the county cops checkpoint like crazy immediately out of and on some random roads around JLL. Be safe!

Grown up or not man, but it still pisses me the F off when someone parks on top of my vehicle.

1) It obviously puts you at risk for accessing your doors.

2) Regardless of how great of a driver you are, reversing out of spots like that is a pain in the butt and could end up bad.

3) The person that parks on top of your vehicle has no respect and doesn't give a damn about your vehicle.

I have a habit of parking next to those end curbs. I'm a happy man when I see one of those spots lol.

This^. Especially when you can pull in from the back spot to the front.

Another spot is the first one after a row of handicap. It's rare to see 4/5 handicap spots taken on a average day, so I get a tire in on that white buffer zone. FOR THE RECORD, I'm NOT in the spot (blue lines) or blocking anyone ability to get in or out of there vehicle.

Walking a mile is always a good choice, especially at Home Depot. Your a mad man if your anywhere near the front door at that place.. When I had my lifted jeep, I'd kill a curb in a heart beat, 2 on the curb and the other half my jeep in the spot. You had to be really trying to get me that way...:props:

Solution for the wife that thinks your nuts, unload her azz at the door and meet her inside. Another trick, make sure you let her out on the entrance side so she doesn't have to walk around the car. :xyxthumbs: that's a tip a ol skool guy married 40yrs put me on too, so I'll pay it forward..

back when i was 15/16 i used to push carts at a grocery store; it was on a hill. It sucked lol.. but i saw so many carts ride down that lot in high winds and hit nice cars.. it was terrible.

Now that's a perfect spot and i'd try to get it everytime!

Best post in this thread LOL

If the empty spots are toooooo far away form the mall, then i look for cars that seem to be well taken care of or park between two high end cars........:xyxthumbs:

Never park on the end of an "island" in the middle of a parking lot, despite it's seeming reduction in possible problems.

I learned this the hard way. Some idiot in a parking spot around the perimeter of the lot backed up and put his trailer hitch through my driver's side door panel. Then he didn't even have the decency to own up to his mistake (he left without so much as leaving a note).

I always park at the back of the lot. Walking is good for you.

Me, too!

And no matter where I park, there can be 27 open spaces and inevitably someone will park right next to my car.

Lot of folks do this just to be dicks. They think it's cute.

I always try to park at the end of a row or away from the masses. I do realize that with my daily driver, stuff will happen. I am just trying to delay or avoid it. Having said that I am responsible for the two door scratches my car has :(

However, with my garage queen, I wont go anywhere unless I know what the parking situation is going to be. If I am not sure of parking safety, I dont take the car.

I remember when someone did that to me when there no other cars parked in the lot. The car was parked so close to my car. I know they were being an a-hole, so I kicked the sh#$%t out of their car door. I too was a lot younger, but they had to bang my car when they opened the door. It was night, so I could not really tell.

Another tip. Don't park in a spot where there is grass because those fu@#$ lawn services will get you, too.

Thank you, she is pregant, so she is the DD.

After reading this thread, I will never look at a parking lot the same. Parkingbydesiign has opened our eyes on how to park
