Part-Time Detailer needing a definitive AIO or Polish/LSP

Doing so would likely 100% negate the sealant in HD Speed which is Poxy. Just my gut as I can't see an abrasive like that not removing the sealant if it wasn't initially designed to be combined.

That's my thought too, pdqgp. I tend to go with how the manufacturer engineers the product and pretty much leave that alone. Don't get me wrong, i have experimented with mixing "cocktails" and not only understand your suggestion but have done it with different products for different affects. In this case I have to believe that the Car Pro folks have balanced out the proportions of each element in Speed.

Again, though, i truly appreciate suggestions like yours to think outside the box, expdetailing.

How long do you feel the Poli-Seal lasts?

I've gotten many months out of it by itself, and that is one of the reasons I haven't tried speed yet. I don't want to have to top it to feel that it has good protection.

I only did it probably 2 months ago and it seems like it's doing fine. However I topped it with aquawax so that could've boosted it a little bit.

Hello Everyone!

I am a failry new Part-Time Detailer who works in the Refinishing Dept in a body shop during the day. I live in an apartment so my boss is nice enough to allow me 1 work bay for me to use after work hours to do detailing work and can stay there overnight. However, that car must be moved back outside during work hours.

This limited time window makes it difficult to schedule and/or complete extensive paint correcting jobs in a timely manner and/or same day. That being said I believe performing a One-Step Polish with an AIO should be my "main flavor". My personal problem with an AIO is I am reading that durability, without topping, is not the greatest and I wouldn't feel comfortable advertising a 4+mo protection claim. (I currently have, DG 101, Poli-Seal, and lots of GG One-Step Sealant)

I have also thought about using a polish that would have a great cutting and finishing ability, then following up with a dedicated LSP for longer durability. I have the Rupes Line-up along with CG Jetseal, DG 111, and GG BOS Paste Wax.

Does anyone have any recommendations for products or maybe even some scheduling tips? I have been interested in getting McKee's 37 360 AIO as it firmly claims at least 6 months and using GG Orange Pads, Rupes Yellow, or B&S Maroon Pads as my main weapons.

Thank you!

Do you have the UHS in your Rupes line up? That is an excellent one step compounding polish. You could follow up with your choice of protection.

Essence topped with Reload.

This is another good option.

Reviving a buried question of mine:

What exactly happens when you apply a topper to an AIO, such as HD Speed, within its cure time? Is the topper durability compromised due to bonding? Or is it just ruining the protection of the AIO?

IMHO:
It'd be nearly impossible to show
exactly what happens, without the
proper equipment at the ready.

•Instead:
-Allow me to suggest approaching
this "topping" topic from the view-
point that's excerpted from the
below Mike Phillips posting.
{Note: the original products' names
have been changed by me in order to
avoid any confusion that may arise.}

Topping ____ aka
How to top one type of wax
with a different type of wax

"There is always a lot of talk about
topping _____ with other products,
because this is a popular topic,
I thought I would offer this simple
suggestion.

If you think you would like to apply
a topper over ______, before you
apply your choice of a topper over
the entire finish, first do a side-by-side
comparison and inspect your results
carefully to insure that the test area
does in fact look better than _____ by
itself before applying your choice of
topper to the entire finish.

If you apply your choice of a topper
to the entire car without comparing,
you will never know if it improved or
diminished the results created by the
_____ alone".

Here's how to do a test spot,

"First - Wait until you have applied
_____ over the entire finish.

Second - Find a nice flat panel like the
hood or deck lid so that you can look
down on the finish while standing over it.

Apply your choice of a topper to a square
section about one foot square being careful
to do so in a way as to have a very distinct
section with only the topper in this section.

Allow the topper to dry according to the
instruction and the remove with a microfiber
polishing cloth or a clean, soft 100% cotton
terry cloth towel".

"After you applied and removed your
choice of a topper carefully, inspect the
two areas under different lighting conditions.

Different lighting conditions will allow
your eyes to see the different dimensions
of your finish, such as richness, gloss,
shine and clearness or clarity.

View the two areas from different angles,
from directly overhead, and with a light
source centered in the area, like the sun.

You may also want to have some friends
compare the two areas also, a second set
of fresh eyes may see something you miss,
especially after you've been working on the
finish and staring at the paint for hours.

If after doing this side-by-side comparison
test in one small area, your eyes will tell
you whether or not you want to continue
with applying the topper to the entire finish.

Hope this helps..."

I can't really comment if you're topping Speed with a non-3D/HD protectant, but if you're using 3D/HD products (Speed topped with Poxy is very popular).....Nothing will be affected. Why? Because the base ingredients in our polishing compounds and protectants all mesh with one another and are part of the same family.

Here's a helpful hint that will not only save you lots of time, but will also increase the longevity of Speed with a Poxy topper's protection....

After you've dialed in the perfect combo, don't remove Speed after each polishing cycle. Leave it on and remove it once all the polishing is complete. Even if it's a few days down the road. Have no fear....removal will not be affected. What this does is allows the protective polymers to link up creating a better/tighter bond. Removing the product immediately after each buffing cycle doesn't provide *optimal* (adequate yes) set up. It's no different with any other polymer paint sealant as we don't wipe it on a panel and then quickly remove.

After removal of Speed, apply Poxy via DA polisher sparingly to the entire vehicle. 6-10 drops can usually cover an average sized car. Once you're done applying Poxy, remove the buffing pad and wipe over and smooth out the existing layer that's already on the vehicle. Again, this will help evenly distribute the product over the surface. Any high spots will be leveled and it will greatly help with the removal process. It will also allow you to get into hard to reach spots (like under door handles) and edge in spots that can't be applied via your buffer.

You can always formulate a aio in one bottle.a little of this alittle of that.

Meguiar's M205 + M21 sealant is my "one step" selection. Sometimes I'll use M02 Fine Cut Cleaner + M21. In this application I like a green or white Buff and Shine pad. Tangering Lake Country Hydrotech pads also work great in that application.

Meguiar's M66 Quick Detailer is my AIO. Gets best results for me on a white, or black Buff and Shine pad. I'll also use Crimson Lake Country Hydrotech pads.

Another combo I like using for a "one step" is Rupes Keramik on a yellow foam or microfiber, flowed by 808 sealant. It goes quick! I love being able to wipe the residue, then apply the sealant - wipe on, wipe off, and done.

On heavily swirled, hard paint, Rupes 21, mf pads (cutting or finishing pads, the spot test will show) and M100.
I've been obtaining impressive results, almost LSP ready.

I am a big fan of the Keramik! How do you like the 808? I have been super interested in it, especially for its bold claims. It's a bit expensive for me to just try on a whim though... If it truly has the durability it claims, or even 3-4 months I would gladly buy that and just do a Keramik + 808 as a one-step!

P808 is a great product. UHS or Keramik followed by P808 is a great combination. I can't comment on durability as I used it at the 2 month mark after the initial application. Rupes claims an up to 6 month durability. Mine would very since I am in the land of very little to no rain in southern california.

So far so far so good. Like Guz, I haven't had it on long, but it will have to endure the coming winter season.

I feel that the future of super strong sealants will see tham as sprays rather than creams.

Sounds like I will be picking some up after Christmas!
