PBL Glass Coating

I prepped glass by cleaning, Nanoskin clay,DP High performance restorer followed by PBL Surface cleansing polish. Applied coating with yellow foam applicator. I did use more than 3 or 4 squirts as pad seemed to be dragging on glass.After a minute or so wiping with microfiber . This seemed to leave some areas with very fine linting. This was early Sunday morningwhen application was done. Temp mid seventies and humid. In the carport until this morning When wind shield and side windows looked as though they had swipes of dew which looked like bad application to me. Bottom line it rained this after noon and water did not sheet or run off any better than when I wash with ONR. What did I do wrong?
 
Probably nothing..... I've done a dozen cars with PBL glass coating and unfortunately had mixed results. A couple ended up just like yours, a few did well but did not last any longer than if I had sealed my windshield. Mine did fair a little better but I put little to no miles on my truck and barely use the windshield wipers. I've tried to blame myself for improper technique however I've installed tons of glass coatings and never really had an issue, so can't really blame the prep 100%.
 
Doesn't seem right for the money. I figured it was humidity or applicator. It really didn't seem to spread well
 
Funny thing is I have seen mixed results with PBL glass coating but DP glass coating seems to satisfy mostly everyone including myself. My windshield has had it on for about 7-8 months before reapplying and it showed no signs of letting up.

I had no other reason to reapply it only because I felt like it. I prepped it by using DP glass restorer then doing an eraser wipedown then applying the glass coating. Seems to have worked.

I will say that my truck does see the garage during the day (I work nights.) Im sure this helps with longevity.
 
I hope I have better results when I get to apply it. Traded some souveran for this coating and now I'm a lil nervous.
 
If a glass coating isn't performing as it should it's normally because the polish used prior to applying the coating wasn't completely removed.

I usually play it safe and wipe the glass down with a DAMP microfiber towel AFTER completely removing the residue from the glass polish/surface cleansing polish. I'll be updating the copy on the website to reflect this additional step.

Also make sure you're actually applying enough coating to completely seal the surface. I usually do about 10-12 sprays for an entire windshield.

Implement this step and you will achieve much better results.
 
Great tips from Nick. Prep. wise, I may do an Eraser wipedown, and wash the car with Hyper Wash before applying it.

My recommendation for application is for you to try using 2 coats for even coverage.

Use an applicator, not a towel, since it'll give you more control over area you're applying. I simply love large MF applicators.

Spray ~5-6 fine mists evenly distributed over half windshield, and spread it UP/Down, covering 50% of your last pass.

Now, spread it side to side, until doing the whole area.

Finish with a last Up/Down total coverage.

Immediately get a MF towel and remove excess.

Move to the other side, and do the other half.

Just after doing this, go back to first half and redo the application, now you may use slightly less product. Go to the other half and redo application.

At the end, wipe the windshield using a clean MF towel to remove excess and streaking.

This is not a rule or the only/right way to do it. Just some tips for you to hear about and add new ideas to your application method.

Interesting results. I used PBL Surface Coating on the paint, wheels and glass on my personal vehicle (daily driver) and it has performed flawlessly in the 5 months it has been installed. Windshield still beads/sheets awesome and I use my wipers from time to time.
 
I did wipe with dry towel after polish, and I did use 8 or more sprays but something was done wrong. I just got back from a drive in the rain and beading or sheeting not happening. I am going to polish again with DP High Performance Glass Restorer, followed by a good wipedown. Should I use Isopropyl? Would a microfiber applicator be better than a foam?
 
I would use Pinnacle Black Label Surface Cleansing Polish to ensure that the surface is squeaky clean.
 
I had some good, albeit short term, results with PBL glass coating. I clayed, polished and prepped with PBL SCP. I was a little generous with the spray since I noticed that it quickly flashed. I used the yellow pad applicators as well. I got a solid 6m out of it -- enough to last the Chicago winter last time around. Probably will do it again.

PBL DPC...not so much luck there.
 
I've had less than stellar results with the glass coating as well. Yes the rain does bead up and roll away, but I think aquapel did a much better job.

My prep was:
Clean with invisible glass
Clay
Compound with menzerna IP
Eraser
Invisible glass again
Pbl cleansing polish
Apply the PBL glass coating.

I figure that should be prep enough?

I'll try something different if I ever run out of this stuff. For the cost of buy in, I feel like I have to use it up.
