OK guys, after reading here and elsewhere I'm getting ready to buy the 7424XP. Is the HD with the 25 ft cord really worth another 30 bucks?

BTW, a few shout-outs to some of the guys here for helping me with product choices even though y'all didn't know you were doing it:

First, Mike P. of course - thanks for all the great videos and posts.
killerwheels - thanks for all the product comparisons.
Nick - thanks for the detailed product reviews
Bobby G. - I think I read every one of your posts, thanks man.
Cee Dog - ditto, dude.

Yeah, I did pick up quite a few products but y'all are gonna have to wait to find out what until spring when I do our DD's. I'll post reviews and pics.

Thanks again to everyone. :xyxthumbs:

Ya want an honest answer...nope.

For the $30 you can go to Lowes/Home Depot (or where ever) and pick one up for $10.

If that is not to your liking...a GOOD extension cord.

Just my 2 cents.

Bill

I got the standard, and just hook it up to a good extension cord. I didn't think the extra $30 was worth it considering I already have a few heavy duty extension cords around.

I have the standard cord on my Porter Cable 7424. I do have to use an extension but that's no biggie. I do have to say I've thought about changing the existing one out but so far I haven't.

It isn't on my top list of things to do.......right now it's shoveling snow getting ready for the next storm this weekend.

You're entirely welcome! Glad you're enjoying the forum! :props:

Thanks guys. That's what I was figuring. I have several heavy duty extension cords and I couldn't believe there would be much of a current drop so it just didn't seem worth the extra bucks.

Bobby, do you ever make it to the Carlisle Corvette or other shows? If you do, drop me a PM. I'm in Carlisle, it would be great to meet you.

Same goes for anyone else. If you're gonna be at one of the Carlisle auto shows PM me. I'll host a cook-out if the weather cooperates.

Heavy - as in Carlisle, MA? If so, I'm in Chelmsford and will definitely be trying to hit up as many auto shows as I can this year.

Nope, as in Carlisle, PA. Carlisle hosts some of the largest car shows on the east coast. Google it.

One thing about using an ext cord is/are the ends not staying connected.

That said, there are gizmos that hold the boy and girl ends together. I have NO IDEA what the real name is, but I picked a couple up last year for just a couple bucks each. Oh, at Home Depot or maybe Lowes (I forget), but you get the idea.

I off to the splash and dash to de-salt the wifes car before it starts snowing AGAIN!

I will pretzel wrap the ends together to keep them from disconnecting. I guess in theory this puts some stress on the cord (twisting them) but have not seen any real issues.

I use this more when using a leaf blower when I have two cords running over 100 ft.

I debated over this myself regarding just using an extension cord, for which I have many...however, I ordered a PC XP HD. I like the fact that I just plug a single cord into the wall and start using the tool and can get around my entire vehicle. The setup is professional, and having that single, 16ga. wire going straight into your 120v circuit will make your PC XP polish with full power. Adding excessive lengths of extension cords is sloppy, dangerous (you can trip on them, loosen connections and arc something), and potentially cause loss of power if too long and gauged incorrectly. Not selling these so I could care less, but I'm very happy with my 25ft cable.

It's you that you're pleasing and since you're spending your cold hard cash you have the one you wanted! Nice machine and good luck with it! :props:

I can see where the longer cord could be beneficial, but I can retrofit mine for a lot less than $30. Might do it this weekend. Got a 3 day weekend so it's time to fire it up!:buffing:
