PC 7424XP stripped threads

Hi,
I lust recently bought a new black vehicle. Sigh.
Anyway, this is my first black vehicle and of course a day after I had it I noticed the halos and swirl marks. So rather than complain to the dealer, I figured I better learn how to do this myself.
I received my PC 7424XP today and it came with a white foam pad( I have a kit of pads on there way) so I decided to just screw the pad on and tighten it down. First I tightened it by hand then I reached for the wrench and before I could put any type of pressure on it--it turned freely. So I was like what the....I looked at the threads on the pad they look fine and the threads inside the PC seem to be ok too? What is going on? Since I don't have the other pads at the moment I can't really say that the threads on the inside of the unit are actually good or not. Any help? Ideas?

u must mean the backplate ? I have never heard of the problem u are having . maybe the treads are bad on either the pc or the Bp . does it still spin freely when u hold the Bp with your other hand while tightening down ?

Yes it spins. It seems loose, but like it is going to tighten then when it's almost a gentle tight it turn freely.
I'm new to detailing but not to tools.

poweraid, I didn't mean that in a bad way. Just doesn't make sense to me.

I'd say u got a bad one there then and since u familiar with tools it not a user error. u prob don't have another Bp on hand that u could try either yet ? then it's if it's the Bp or the pc ? maybe go to hardware store pickup a bolt of same threads and see what happens . otherwise ag will take care of you no problem . being that it is the weekend u prob not get any cs till Monday ? if u need or want your pc ASAP i would call early Monday morn , explain the problem , order. new one and then just send bad one back for credit rather than waiting for the swap out after they get the old one . maybe someone else here has had the same prob and would know a little more . sorry I couldn't be of more help there and sucks u didn't even get to use it .

I don't think the PC comes with a real backing plate. If you bought it as a package from AG then you might have one but if you just got the unit itself then no.

I believe the pad that comes with the machine is glued onto the "plate" so you can't change it to a different pad. Not even sure I would call what's on there a pad either. You can slap a bonnet on it for removal of wax but you should really get a 5 inch bp for use with your pad kit.

remember to put on the plastic washer with your new bp.

Also, I can't recall as I haven't needed to remove the bp from my polisher for a long time but I think the wrench is just for holding the spindle stationary so you can wind/unwind the bp from the assembly by hand. It isn't used for tightening anything.

I believe the threads Porter Cable uses for their machines is 5/16-24. Get a 5/16-24 bolt and test the threads in the machine to see if they engage properly.

Once the pad is tightened in place the mechanism spins freely.

I think the spindle is turning (as it should)... the wrench is to hold the spindle while you hand tighten the pad or backing plate to the spindle...

When I hold the spindle with the wrench, the pad+backing plate spin. Got to be stripped inside the spindle. In the process of returning the machine now.
