Ok, I have done a lot of looking and here is where I think I am going:

Porter Cable 7424
Pinnacle XMT Heavy Duty Swirl Remover Complete Kit
XMT Intermediate Swirl Remover #3
XMT Fine Swirl Remover #2
Pinnacle Souveran™ Carnauba Paste Wax

Lambswool 6 Inch Leveling Pad (1)
Pinnacle XMT Pad Care Combo
Cobra Microfiber Detailing Cloth (6)
The Supreme Guzzler Waffle Weave By Cobra 20 x 40

Any comments? Does this look like a pretty complete set of materials for the paint?

What else might I need?

BTW, my vehicles are:
2008 Pontiac G5 GT, Black
2006 Pontiac G6 GTP, Slate Grey Metallic

yes it's a nice combo to start, my first order was exactly your list. work verry well, but I switch xmt polish to menzerna, i saw a good difference between, but it's all depend of your car color and if your clear cot is hard. btw nice order

Added vehicles and colors up there. I assume the souveron will work equally well on both vehicles.

Great selections--the Sov will pop on those colors.

I would switch the polishes to SIP and 106FF (Nano) personally, but love the order.

and what is SIP and 106FF ? Didn't find that in the acronym list.

menzerna super intensive polish and 106fA is menzerna super nano polish

ok, and a follow on: Which would those be replacing in my list? and why?

you should replace xmt 3 and xmt 2 by menzerna SIP and menzerna 106FA cause menzerna is by far the best polish. xmt will do a great job but for a perfect finish especially on dark color I highly recommand you to go with menzerna polish

What about pads? Skip the 6.5" pads and get the 5.5" and even some 4" pads.

i'd add some foam pads too...

i think i see one pad in your list there.

assuming you are running with a 5" backing plate,

maybe....add an orange pad or two, but definately a white pad or two and a green pad.

EDIT: Rsurfer beat me to it...

I wonder, flex polisher can just run with 6.5 pad right? there is no backing plate for the flex?

hmm that is a bit more expensive as well. But it is well worth it you say?

The SIP is basically the #3 and the 106FA is basically the #2? Could be worth it.

And the Pinnacle Heavy Duty kit has 6.5 pads with it.

I don't have first hand experience with the flex. I just ordered mine and awaiting its arival. I do have experience with the PC and its correction limits / time to complete. Everything I have read / seen indicates a great improvement with the flex. Thats what I based my decision to buy it off of. As far as the Menzerma products I do have these and they work great. One thing I have learned and most will probably recomend is you always want more than one pad. I.E. a few yellow, orange, white. I bought my PC before I found AG or I probably would have bought the flex based on reviews. I am a firm beliver in spend more and buy it right the first time. Funny how that never seems to work out.

:buffing:

Questions.
How much correction is needed on your cars? That might help in Pad choices.

Do you have a clay bar?

Have you thought about a sealer before wax.

The cars only have a couple of spots each that need heavy correction, but for the most part are in good shape.

I do have a clay bar and have used it within the past 3 months on both vehicles.

Another issue is my financial adviser (wife) is hesitant at the amount of money with the order I have set up there. And the flex adds about $100 to that, if not more.

I hear you, It's hard to get money out of my financial adviser also.... Unless its for investing in precious metals or stones :D

As a financial advisor by trade, you simply need to sell the virtue of the purchase and state the hard benefits. A clean and well cared for car means it lasts longer and another depreciating item wont be needed so quickly. Ahhh ... now if only my wife believed in my career versus just the $$ it brings in.
