PC Continues to Give Trouble

Hey Autogeek!
Wondering if anyone else is having severe issues with their 7424XP? My spindle from the motor to the backing plate and counterweight had broke on my last one, so I ordered a new one and fixed the other. My new one=same issue. However, after being fixed, this one is extremely hard to handle, heats up enough to burn my hand, and vibrates near uncontrollably. I compare this to a "normal pc" which is nothing like what I am experiencing...
Any thoughts?

Are you saying you broke two machines in a row? And now you're back to using the first one after it was repaired?
 
I'd personally send it back to the outfit that did the fixing...

I gave my other one to a friend of mine, and the new one is now giving me the same problems... In the article recommended below, washers are mentioned... Let me double check that they are in place, as this could be my problem.

I have been contemplating on buying a Flex 3401 for months... Trying to wait the winter out before doing so...

You didn't discard the backing plate spacer/washer by any chance? Sounds like a symptom of a missing washer.
 
It's your washer, I had the same problem if your wash is not in place it will heat up and be to hot to touch .100 percent that's your problem.
 
if its any assistance to you, i just sold my PC today with 3 LC backing plates for 125.00.

im turning that into a flex 3401 as well. i had an issue with my first PC in that it vibrated so much my hands tingled for days after using it. the second one was great, but it just takes too much time to get the correction...im hoping the more powerful flex will cut it down for me without having to go back to a rotary.

I had problems with my under powered PC. I've pruchased a Flex 3401 which is fun to work with. My Pc stands on a shelf collecting dust. I use it occasionally with 4" pads.GG is far better than the PC.

you can't go wrong with the flex, especially now since there are different backing plates to accomodate different size pads. i would be looking into a rupes lhr21e (google for more info) and keep the PC designated for use with smaller 3"-4" pads...

I have read a lot of threads about the Big Foot (namely at autopia and detailing world) and still can't understand the hype about this machine: it sure seems to be smooth and fast at correcting but it's very expensive (it's a regular DA), it can't be used in tight areas (you will always need a second machine, either a DA or a rotary) and it seems to "chew pads like a mad man" (a Portuguese detailer that has been using it for more than 6 months has written that some pads don't even last a single car!). I hope you guys in the US start using it regularly and start doing independent reviews so that I can formulate an educated opinion about it. :props:

This is my problem! Didn't understand the use of it so discarded without thinking... Hopefully I have some sort of replacement available around here, otherwise I'll be making another order today. Thanks fellas!
 
Run down to your local hardware store, and pick up nylon, fiber, basically any washer that is NOT steel. It needs to be compressible.

About 1/2"-1" outside diameter, 1/16"-1/8" thickness and a hole that will fit the 5/16" stud on the DA.

The purpose of the washer is to give the little nubbies on the backing plate some clearance.

Porter Cable or Autogeek should include a note saying DO NOT LOOSE THIS WASHER OR REMOVE IT FROM THE BACKING PLATE! It seems to be the number 1 cause of polisher problems.
