I always waxed my cars by hand, got good results and all, but after luring around here for months i just cant compete with the results i see here that are done with a pc. Since i never used one, i have few questions. I want to get one of them kits that come with the pc, back plate, pads and some waxes, sealents, polishes ect... How long do pads last, do i use one pad to polish the whole car? I have a dark colored car, which kit would be best for me. Paint is in decent shape, with few swirls, few etched water spots and fine scratches in the clear coat. Also which products would suit my needs best?

what are the life spans of pads. Do i throw them out after each use, or can i do the cleaning on the fly method and use one pad to polish the whole car?

Where do you live? Maybe a fellow Autogeeker can invite you over for a demo.

Even with cleaning on the fly you will need multiple pads. You can clean your pads after your car is finished and continue to use them over and over.

since i will be apply wax by hand, all i need is a light cutting pad right? So i should use like 2 or 3 pads for the car for polishing it?

There are so many factors to consider that it hard to give a definitive answer. Many people use a test section to figure out how to approach the rest of the car.

If you plan on using a 1 stepper, you could get away with 3 pads.I have done a 1 stepper for people and they were blown away by the results. I thought the results were bad. So what you are expecting is a factor.

Another factor is the hardness of your clearcoat and the severity of the imperfections...

I think Harrisburg is about 60 miles from me. If you would like to make the trip, I would be more than happy to help.

The paint is in pretty good shape, it only has swirls that can be only seen in direct sunlight, and very few water spots that also can only be seen in the direct sunlight. I was watching the videos in the link posted above, now do i have to do all the same steps as he did, or can i just use the swirl mark remover then go straight to applying wax, or the other two steps are a most?

For the most part an aggressive product like a swirl remover does not leave the paint LSP ready. (LSP=Last Step Product, such as a wax.) It generally needs to be followed by a less aggressive polish first to bring out the shine and remove any possible micro-marring caused by the more aggressive polish. You can achieve pretty good results with a 1 step product like Menzerna Power Finish PO 203.

32 oz Menzerna Power Finish PO 203, one step polish, swirl remover, finishing polish, car polish, german car polish, menzerna polishing compounds, power
16 oz Menzerna Power Finish PO 203, one step polish, swirl remover, finishing polish, car polish, german car polish, menzerna polishing compounds, power

If your paint is in pretty good shape, this might be the way to go.

If you are not already, claying your car is important also.

So am i better off just buying things separetly, or stick to a kit? im not trying to spend alot of money trying to keep the price as low as possible. So what things are essential to buy? like

1. Pc
2. How many pads and which ones?
3. Which one stepper would be best and not expensive?
4. Which wax for dark colored car, or should i stick to my NXT 2.0
5.What else do i need?

How much are you looking to spend?

Are you already using proper washing techniques? Like two buckets with grit guards? Have a good wash mitt?

Do you have microfiber towels?

Are you claying?

Once i get all this order, im also picking up mother clay bar kit, for washing i use a foam gun to then wash with car sponges, and i do have alot of microfiber towels? I would like to keep everything under $220-250 if possible?
