PC problems...

Ya know, I'm just thinking 'out of the box' but you are using the washer on the threaded backing plate stud aren't you? Kinda wonder if the BP isn't binding against the housing.

Just my wild ###ed guess...

Bill

I boxed up the polisher for return already & honestly I can't remember if/when I was using it...I did so many different tests with the pad that came with it & another removeable backing plate in so many different outlets haha but I could've forgotton to use it. Could that have caused all the that trouble?

Where did you order it from? what country do you live in?

electrical devices will only pull the amperage they need. doesn't matter how much you give them access to. most houses I build get 200amp panels. average circuit is 15 or 20 amps. your washing machine circuit isn't heavy duty. probably just a 15 amp circuit if its on its own one and its an older home. You need to have your electrical outlet looked at for some sort of problem. I can tell you its not a dead short between the black and white wires (hot/neutral) your breaker would pop. A motor burning up like that suggests its binding or being demanded to do much harder work that it was made for. It is possible its wired backwards. which could do damage to motors and other devices. Lightbulbs wouldn't care at all. if you want to check it yourself with a safe device, go to lowes, homedepot, etc. and get a GFCI/Outlet tester. It plugs into the outlet and has 3 lights on it. the pattern will tell you whats wrong if anything. the pattern is printed on the tester.

I'm definitely going to test my outlets & see if anything is wrong before I purchase anything else.

It is possible...I know on my XP, without the washer you need a feeler gauge to measure the gap.

Hope it all works out for ya...

Update: Returned the PC, bought a GG from autogeek (made sure to use the washer;) and it works fabulously! am using w/ poorboy's world polishes & collinite. No overheating, smoking, nothing. barely even gets warm. I also like the bucket handle better. thanks Autogeek!

I actually had the same thing happen to a Dremel last week. Of course, I was pushing the tool.

I had the same problem with my PCXP .After the return I got The Flex 4301 -the king of the DA ! If i knew how much better is the Flex would never bought the PC.No vibration, smoke or extra heat...great power and is much more quiet, get the job done much faster.I use it for polishing and sealants/wax.

Given that thought, what speed where you using, what type of pads, pressure used, the frequency of breaks during the five minutes, the temp of the area, any details...perhaps we can pinpoint a cause.

Looks like the problem is getting a little more common. Same thing just happened to me.

Didn't PC get bought out not all that long ago by Delta? Maybe there is an issue with that and the PC is going to be junk now...

Well, I just googled it and it looks like that was a number of years ago and they were bought by black and decker (who owns Delta as well). From my woodworking experience, Delta table saws and other tools are no longer what they used to be either.

Seems like some of you were warrantied through AG or exchanged for a different DA. I was told to go to PC Delta. Guess that policy changed or am I reading this wrong...

I've been using my pc for over a year now with no issues. I have used it to do multiple full corrections, one steps, and applying waxes and have never had an over heating issue. Might be a bad lot of pollsters or maybe as others have said the washer wasn't used.

Either way glad you got a new polished that's working for you.

Definitly don't have a new polisher yet. On mine, the washer was installed...

Im getting really nervous. My PC arrives today, im really thinking i should have gotten the GG instead...

Same issue here. The PC polisher just ruined two of my pads.

Burnt a hole right through the velcro backing on one of my CCS pads. The glue on the second pad melted and the velcro peeled right off the pad :(

Thats user error, excess pressure will cause the backing plate to heat up and burn/ruin the pads. Slow down the speed, and lighten up the pressure. That would happen with any machine.

The Griots 6" is the way to go :)

Ditto. It is amazing to me that anyone can advocate the PC over the Griot's. I have the 7424xp and the GG6". The GG is significantly more powerful, and smoother than my 7424. I've relegated the 7424xp to 4" pads for spot correction and for spreading wax.

With proper technique the PC and PCXP machines are more than capable of correcting even the worst paint. More power isn't need, correct technique is needed.

Most of the time I would agree, but when you get to body panels with odd shapes/curves/contours the extra power helps keep the pad rotating. Of course a Flex would also fix that issues but it's $300 plus.

For all the PC haters, please send me your machine if it is such junk! Thank you. PM me and I give you my shipping info! :D
