Hi All,

I have been trying to get the swirls out of my car for quite some time. I think my main problem, is that I have so much gosh darn wax on the car, that whenever I use a polish or swirl remover (i usually use adams) the swirls go away to some extent but come back. Heres what I did

Washed the car with my foam gun
dryed
used some wax/tar remover on a microfiber towel
Surbuf + M105
Surbuf + M205

I noticed that the M205 leaves a haze that I have to use alot of pressure on my microfiber to get out. I have a feeling Im doing this wrong..can someone help?

Thanks:)

Surbuf and M105 is pretty aggressive. Have you tried something less aggressive? M105 w/ Orange Pad. Surbuf pads do not finish down well. Use a foam polishing pad with M205 to refine the finish after the M105.

Surbuf + M105 :xyxthumbs:
Surbuf + M205

do you have any foam or microfiber da pads to try after surbuf 105? Surbuf+205 is going to give you a haze more than likely, even though I have never tried 205 w/ a surbuf.

I've had no luck finishing with surbuf pads. Cutting/compounding yes. Break out some foam for the finish.

SpoiledMan??? Dude, I didn't know you came to this neck of the woods! Say hello to Patrick for me and tell him I'm sorry what happened at WCDS...hopefully I helped him clean up a little.

Have you used a claybar at all? I didn't see that in your steps and it wouldn't be a good idea to polish without claying first.

On softer paints M105/Surbuf can leave a hazed mess, which can usually benefit from a median step. On harder clears you can usually go right to your finishing polish (M205), but as others have said you need to use a foam polishing or finishing pad. Surbuf are not meant for final finishing. The swirls you see coming back are likely micro marring from the Surbuf pad and the oil in M205 were simply masking them until you wash it.

Hi all,

Yes I did clay. As far as the finishing pads- I do have a white adams pad that I can use with the 205. Will post the results.

I also bought some 4'' pads/backing plate..surbuf/lc to get along my spoiler and in smaller spots.

Washing with a solution of Dawn, all purpose cleaner, and warm water should remove a majority of sealants and wax. Claying next will remove whats left so any left over surface protection should net factor into this.

I don't have any experience with Surbuf pads however lets ask a few questions and see if we can help move this along.

Closeup photos showing the surface defects would help allot.

Meguiar's M105 and M205 are staples of the detailing world are the baseline which many products are compared.

These are some of the basic questions I would ask that might help get to the root of the problem.

  • Did you prime the pad enough so the compound is working between the pad and paint and not being absorbed into the pad?
  • Is your polishing speed set between 5 and 6?
  • Are you working a 2' X 2' section
  • Is the downward pressure sufficient enough to allow the pad to rotate and correct the finish?
  • Are you performing 4 to 6 complete passes per section?
  • Are you moving the polisher to fast, not allowing it enough time to work?
There are many things that could be coming into play here but not seeing it or being there makes it difficult to diagnose and resolve.
