Heres a quick question for you PC guru's. I picked one up to try out as I have always done my compounding and polishing via rotary buffer and LSP by hand. Thought the PC may speed my process up allowing me to work more...anyways

The white polish pad that came with the porter cable...
What did you guys do with it? Does it work worth a flip?
I have done 5 and 6" MF bonnets too that I haven't used. Before I waste my time...are these effective at all in the polishing stage?

Thanks!

I would consider the white pad that accompanies the machine a general purpose pad. This would be a decent pad for paint cleaners and all-in-one products. Before I ditched it I'd give it a try and see how it works.

One reason that makes its grade uncertain is there's no color to foam density standards.

Lake Country Foam Pads

Yellow Cutting Foam - Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and older finishes. Always follow this pad with an orange or white pad and a fine polish to refine the paint until it is smooth.

Coarse Green Cutting/Polishing - This foam is of medium density with the ability to level very fine scratches and very light oxidation. Use light swirl removers with this pad.

Orange Light Cutting Foam - Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all-around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

White Polishing Foam - Less dense foam formula for the application of waxes, micro-fine polishes and sealants. This pad has very light cutting power so it’s perfect for pre-wax cleaners.

Green Polishing/Finishing Foam - Use this foam to apply one-step cleaner waxes. It is a balance of polishing and finishing that is perfect for all-in-one product application.

Gray Finishing 6.5 inch Foam Pad - Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has no cut and will apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes.

Blue Finessing Foam – Pad has soft composition for applying glaze, finishing polish, sealants, and liquid waxes. Flat pad provides full contact with paint surface to minimize the pressure applied by the user.

Red Ultrasoft Wax/Sealant Foam - This soft, imported foam is ideal for applying the final coat of wax or sealant. The foam works especially well when applying liquid waxes or sealants because it is firm enough to keep the majority of the product on the paint, rather than soaking it up. The red foam has no cut or cleaning ability.

Super Soft Gold Jewelling Foam - The CCS Super Soft Gold Jewelling Pad is made of Lake Country's softest foam. Use the gold pad to apply a very fine polish or glaze as the final step of the polishing process. Jewelling is the term coined for this step because it intensifies gloss and reflectivity, like a jewel. The gold foam pad also works well for wax and sealant application.

Flip your bonnets over it to buff off waxes or flip it in the trash.

Thanks! I actually went out in the garage with it and tested it on my Honda. The color of the Honda is the infamous nighthawk black pearl. I primed it and used some 205 on an area I just got done cutting with my Makita. 5 passes and it polished out well enough for my LSP. On a clients car I would probably prefer something a little softer but I will definitely keep it and use it as an all purpose pad

imo, dont throw it away, you can use the pad for chrome and stuff or you can rip the foam off of the backing plate, remove the adhesive with tarminator and use the foam for trim/dressing applicator pads then the BP apply some good velcro to it and trim it down to a size you want :) then you have an extra BP for smaller pads if you want to use them. chuck the BP in a drill and use a lathe bit and trims down easy

Thanks! Yea I actually ripped it off the backing plate today and ended up finishing a job with that backing plate on a meg. Soft buff yellow pad because I ended up leaving the correct plate at another job. I used the white pad I cut off into a 3 inch disk(several) to polish out a bunch of chrome trim with klasse on a 3 inch BP and it worked flawlessly
