I have never detailed before but have been lurking and putting things in a cart but not buying. I have a black car with some halograms from a poor detail....by a professional. A neighbor is selling tools and has a couple 7336s for sale.

I am wondering if its worth buying one of these older units vs. waiting a while to get a newer DA?

DA are for all noobs. Rotary are the one to watch for because it's powerful.

DA tools are more forgiving than rotary tool. You'll see that people just turn up the DA to max speed bc it's not constant force like rotary (brand names). The more pressure you put on the DA, the less rotational speed of the pad you'll have.

If you decide you want to get a rotary, stick with the cheap ones because it's easier to control - doesn't have constant force.

Imo it would depend on the price the neighbor wants for these older pc's. I as well of a ton of people got their start on that or comparable machines. It is down on power compared to the newer machines being offered. But this machine WILL do the job.PorscheGuy997 still uses his 7336 with great success. Mine recently has been demoted to having a carpet scrubbing brush placed on it. Before that it had taken a ton or swirls out of plenty of cars. With 5.5 or smaller pads this is great for a beginner with a little patience.
Personally I would stay close to the 40-50 dollar range or less for these used machines. Used newer models can be found for 85-110 .

He had a couple for around 20$ each. I like the carpet scrubber maybe even a 3".....hmmm....
