PC7424 losing power/heating up/smelling

I have heard this line of argument used multiple times against Griot's lifetime warranty. The argument is weak. You might as well use that argument against any warranty regardless of length because any company, including AG, could go under. The fact of the matter is that it is both logical and financially prudent to buy products with longer warranties. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise because everything breaks down.

don't get me wrong, the warranty is great and i really don't see Griots going under anytime soon (been around for 20+ years IIRC), but "lifetime" in reality to me would be "longer" warranty. like i said, the power of the GG6 is what sold me, not the warranty though it's icing on the cake...

Didn't get a chance to take it to the shop. Will in the morning
In the meantime I opened up the polisher and checked out the inside. Seen no VISIBLE defects or anything out of the ordinary.
While opened I used the a/c to blow some air and blow any debris or dust out.
Started it up. Works fine but when I set to speed 6 it takes a few seconds to "kick in". And i notice a slight rattling in the upper housing around the shaft. Don't recall if this is a normal sound or not since I never took notice.

Sooo...anyone with a 7424xp wanna crank theirs up to 6 and let me know if these are normal on a correctly operating machine?

Seems like short while ago (1 yr) everyone was pushing PC. After finding problems with this unit I am glad I went with megs G100V2. Had one of those Lowes 7336 and took it back. Spending 2 yrs. in Mexico every 2nd wk in manufacturing facility I know first hand what their quality is like. " Close enough is good enough"
My 2 cents. The only product I would buy from Mexico is Don Julio and 1800 tequila! LOL

Ive had 2 griots 6" polishers die in a similar fashion to what you are describing. To me, the smell is electrical, the polisher slows down, and yes it does heat up.

The only thing I am thinking is that it could be my extension cord, but this cord has been used on my g100 thats over 5 years old and still going.

What length and wire gauge extension cord are you using. I have burnt up electric motors in the past using too long and too small extension cords.

Its 50ft and its the most flexible and thickest orange extension cord I have, but to say its amp rating and gauge, i wouldnt know.

Well after a few super busy weeks of work and holiday stuff I was finally able to get my PC dropped off at the repair shop.
They turned it on and first thing they said was "definitely bad gears".
This was without taking apart and seeing anymore (if any) issues so I will follow up with more info and details once the repair is complete

Thanx for keeping us in 'the loop.'

Called this morning for an update on the repair.
They stated the problem was bad gears/bad front (top) end and they had to send it to Pittsburg for repair since their technician was backed up.
Ah just my luck...luckily my detailing is just a side gig but I now have about 5 "customers" waiting.

5 customers waiting means it's time for a backup machine.

Yes sir you are absolutely correct!
I'm going to go with a Griots 6 inch this time around and see for myself which I like best.

With the hit and miss reviews on the GGDA I would try out the Meg'sDA to see for myself. I haven't heard a bad review on it yet, and the technology in it makes it a great DA for correction from what I have seen. You could just go with the Flex3401 and solve all you problems.:)

I have had 3 that all had cord failure. I just put a cord on one and am hoping thats all it will ever need.
