Is it impossible to keep a daily driver perfect? I noticed a few very fine scratches on the hood after a rinseless today. The sun was very bright and I noticed them.

I'm happy with the way the paint looks. It's a little disappointing though considering I try sooo hard to have good technique

IMHO, Dailys are going to take a beating, but with your time and effort you can help minimize imperfections. A yearly polish can be reduced from a 2 step correction to just a nice 1 step to keep that show car shine.

My current daily driven car and any future DD is and will always be white.

i live in canada and with hunting season in full swing it's impossible to keep er clean.. was down a bush road last night and by the time i got out, i have about 2" of dirt caked in the wheel wells. sad to see it, but with winter on the way i have to suck it up

Personally I don't think it's feasible to keep a 95-100% scratch free daily driver. Granted this is dependent on your situation. But keeping it clean and needing a one step yearly or so is completely possible.

You can't keep a daily driver flawless, though you can keep it close to perfect, however if that vehicle is the one that catches your heart, and or you can commit to keeping it forever then put it in a garage where there is no harm, and buy something you don't mind begin a daily driver

I would argue impossible. Especially if you own a truck, no one respects your vehicle and if I end up having to park in a full lot I almost always find a new scratch.

Would a one step be any different than using a fine polish.

Off the top of my head:
-It would be different if the one step product was rated anything more abrasive than "fine".
-It would be different if the one step product was rated anything less abrasive than "fine".
-It would be different if the one step product was an AIO.
-It would be different if the one step product was an LSP.

I don't have any aio specific. This says will remove fine scratches and micro marring. I'm still a little confused. What would something like megs paint reconditioning cream be?

Meguiar's D151 is an AIO....(Hybrid Cleaner Wax/Sealant).

Finish Polish is real good, I do not buy into fine polishes until I tried it, even on a soft black.

Not going to happen, but you can come close. My xterra looks good 90% of the time. Weekly washes etc.. But come winter, thats another story. Everything is coated with DP coatings. So i'll see what i have in the spring.

I really don't even try and keep my car perfect. As long as it is shiny that is all I am worried about for the most part. I drive 70-100 a day for work, so keeping a car clean would be a daily thing if I really wanted it perfect and clean. The good thing is my car looks clean 90% of the time to everyone else, even though I think it looks filthy.

Mine would be extremely close but things happen. For me it really seems more like other people happen. As I have now had my car egged and had plastic containers drug across my hood by my lovely neighbors.

It is possible to keep a Daily Driver Perfect, just not likely

Your odds improve if it is:

-Driven short distances

-Located in a favorable climate

-Garaged at Home and Work

-Coated with a marring resistant LSP

Most importantly, in my opinion, is the color of the paint.

My black vehicle cannot go six months without needing a light polish.
No matter how careful the cleaning technique light marring will occur.

Impossible in my situation. But trying to make it perfect is part of the fun.

Its nearly impossible to keep a garage queen scratch free, much less a daily driver. I have knocked things off a shelf and dinged my garage queen, had something fall off the ceiling and scratch the car. Daily driver? I do my best, but there is just no way to keep it from getting scratched.

White though shows a lot of scratches and swirls. Flat non metallic colors are the worst. Pearl white, silver, metalic gray are great at hiding imperfections.
