It is the wipers rubbing on the glass that affects the durability, so you are technically correct; if the product works so well that you never use the wipers at all

It is my understanding at this point that the OPT coatings may be broken down by photo degradation, but I have not seen this stated by a reliable source

Polymers are broken down by UV rays.
Does the Optimum Coatings have any polymers?

I've just been using #21 or 845 on my glass. Works good. Easy wax on wax off. Doesn't smear. I just reapply every couple months. Alot of talk about flyby30 maybe I'll try it

I think it may have a revised MSDS since they ran out of the magic sprinkles they used to make it Permanent

There are probably some long chain somethin's in there if you believe the InterWeb

Has anyone used the Nano Skin Rain Glass sealant and if so, can you provide an honest opinion.
 
I bought pinnacle glass sealant and it was difficult to buff off. It seemed to always leave behind a film. It worked ok. But I've only been using #21 or 845 since I got the new car. Are these newer coatings worth trying? I like keeping things simple even if though that doesnt make sense waxing the windshield every couple months. I know the wax won't leave anything behind.

The trick to Pinnacle glass sealant is to let it dry. How to accomplish this? Well first apply it thin. The BEST way I have found to apply it is to use a C Quartz foam block applicator. But, instead of using a suede towel, use a blue mechanics paper towel wrapped around it. You need to apply it with something that won't soak up a lot of product. Use only a few drops at a time - pretend like your applying a coating.

Do this on a sunny day. Then, let the windshield sit in the sun. Depending how thin and how sunny, wait... You can have to wait anywhere up to an hour. This product gets easier to remove the longer you let it sit. 20 mins is only long enough if it's very hot and you apply it very thin.

Then it will buff off quite easily and not streak.

The product is quite good and easy to use. But, I don't think the directions are the best on the bottle. It would be even better if it came with some type of applicator like I described.
 
Very true. I definitely wiped it off too soon. I have a full bottle I'll probably never get rid of. I'm gonna use it on the house Windows next summer
 
The whole point of a wax or sealant, its whole raison-d'être, is that it "leaves something behind."
 
And yes, that's the number one reason I don't go to touchless carwashes. Even selecting the "no wax" option, they leave sealant residue on your windshield and glass that is really troublesome.
 
When I mean leaving something behind, I mean that I couldn't get the sealant off. Wax wipes off. But that was my fault, as steve mentioned it has to dry awhile which I didn't let it dry enough. Just easier to deal with wax.

I think waxing makes my wipers smoother. I haven't had any wiper chatter
