Edit: Pics have been added in this post as well as the 9th post which is a picture of using a polisher and a light abrasive compound.
Note: I live on a dirt road, so my truck is almost always covered in dust.
I had my truck wrapped last year using either 3M or Avery wrap (I can’t recall which brand exactly). The shop that did the work claimed they applied a ceramic coating, but I’m starting to doubt that. The dirt seems to have baked into the wrap.
I recently had it detailed by a local shop (I'm a bit lazy, though I do have my own cleaning supplies – sometimes it's just easier to pay someone else). They did a pre-rinse, used a foam cannon twice, and did a rinse-less wash, but none of that removed the dirt that looks like it’s been embedded into the wrap. Even the glass seems to have the same issue, with what looks like paint embedded into it. I’m starting to wonder if it could be hard water stains, as my neighbor irrigates his field, and occasionally my truck gets sprayed when I pass by.
We tried using Iron X remover (Adams Brand) and a clay mitt, but that didn’t help – and the clay mitt actually scratched the wrap. I then asked the detailer to try a light cutting compound with an orbital buffer, which seemed to improve things a bit, but I'm not sure if that’s the right approach, since it’s a vinyl wrap, not painted. It's almost as if it's covered in an ashy film of dirt.
Does anyone have recommendations for cleaners that could help with this?
