Piece of Junk

You are mistaken, it's completely removable just like the PC.

I would definitely buy it if it has a Lifetime Warranty because you guys might laugh at me but I like Meguiar's stuff.

So, does it have a Lifetime Warranty?

Im not going to laugh at you. I love Meguiars products as well. No one offers a more complete lineup of products than Meguiars.

As for the warranty on the G110 I thought it was a one year warranty but I could be wrong. I do have the V2 and love it. Im thinking about getting a second polisher as well so I have a back up if one stops on me but im undecided if I want another G110 or a Griots.

Why do the Cyclos get no love?? Made in the USA. They say they run for 50 years. Very user friendly. They do a nice job.

I like the idea of a Lifetime Warranty so I'm going with the Griot's.

Let me describe what had happened as this may help some of you. I was using it a few month's ago when I noticed it was vibrating more than usual and it was making a metal on metal noise. I pulled the backing plate and noticed the edge of the weight was scraping the wall of the chassis. Also, there were metal flakes due to this. It was then I also noticed that the whole spindle was wobbly. I was able to finish the job though.

The funny thing is I used it a month after that and the spindle wasn't wobbly anymore. It fixed itself and worked great that time I used it.

But today, I noticed the spindle was wobbly but since I finished the job that one time, I thought I could finish this one. Well that wasn't the case because when I turned it on, it was vibrating A LOT. Then as I just finished the trunk, the pad and that whole assembly just fell off and then I saw something fly off.

Anyways, if your polisher has a wobbly spindle, then it's bound to break on you. And once again, I'm super surprised at how skinny that spindle is on a 7424.

I could see getting one of those if you detail cars for a living but for the weekend detailer, $300 bucks is a big investment for something you're not going to use all the time.

For me if im going to shell out that kind of money I will fork out a bit more for a quality German made tool and pick up the 3403.

Now if only Flex would make a traditional D/A. Wouldnt that be great?

Hey, I thought you said these were made in the USA.

Anyways, it's a nice looking polisher but I don't do this enough to invest in something like that.

I would however pay up to $160 bucks for a DA that was made in the USA.

If mine last me 5-10 years I will be more than happy. It's not like you are going out and spending $125 every two years.

Also the fact that the machine was having problems and you kept on using it was probably why it broke. It's like ignoring a dummy light on your dash that is saying your coolant is low or something and you keep on driving, and then bang.

Get real dude, if I've only used it like 10 times, I'd expect it to last regardless of how old it is. Maybe that spindle rusted. Should I have kept the unit in a vacuum sealed bag?

Also, what was I supposed to do? I didn't know what the problem was in the first place. Now I do and now I know not to buy these pieces of crap anymore since I'm not the only person that this has happened to.

I was just going by what you stated in your first post.

I would call it a piece of junk either because as I mentioned in my first post others have had problems with the Griot's and Meguiar's units. I'm not saying the Porter Cable is unbreakable, it's just I don't see many threads about it breaking down. That's all.

I hope your new machine works well and achieves the task at hand!

It does me no good that my Porter Cable broke on me today as I had just finished the trunk with a Yellow Pad and Menzerna Power Gloss. Luckily, the trunk wasn't all hazy. I slapped on a coat of wax on the whole car and my friend said his car looked great in the sun but I spent just an hour to tape up all the plastic, door and window seals. That itself takes me an hour.

Now I have to order a new polisher, get the car back, re-wash it, well you guys get the idea.
I understand that too. With any manufactured product your going to have a percentage of defective products...always. You just have to figure out who has the lowest percentage...from what I have seen and heard it's PC. I understand you being skeptical to try another one. I had no choice when the Meguires broke but to buy another one locally to finish the job. But when I sent the bad Meg. back to AG I got a PC.
I heard a lot of good things about the Griot's...but there seemed to be more issues with defects. My next machine will be a Flex...

i'm no legal genius, but i would check exactly what is covered under the "lifetime" warranty. Where exactly is the lifetime warranty mentioned?

Thank You. I'm pretty sure the Griot's DA is decent. They're a big company with products that they want to stand behind.

Judging by what feslope said, it's a pretty painless procedure to get a new unit.

No where that I could find.

Well, 3 owners of the Griot's on this thread say theirs come with a Lifetime Warranty and feslope said this:

"I had a Griot 3" go bad. Griots just sent me a new one within a couple of days along with a return label for the defective one. "

Sounds like affirmation for me.

Did you guys read the whole thread?

Just reading over this entire thread and thinking about guarantees made me think of the movie Tommy Boy, everyone seen it?

I was thinking about that part where Tommy gets his first sale to the old guy...

Old Manager: "I like your line and I like your prices. But theres a problem. Theres no guarantee on the box"

Tommy: "Heck if something breaks down you can call me, even if I'm at home watching TV."

Richard: "Callahan has guaranteed every part sold since 1925."

Old Manager: "Maybe so. But its not on the box! It should always be on the box. Comforting you, calling out, "I'm good, I'll never let you down, but if I do I'll make things all better."

Richard: "Are brake pads are made of a non-..."

Old Manager: "..Son, if your not talking about a guarante, skip it. My customers need to see that little label looking them right in the eye.

Tommy: "Lets think about this Ted. Why would someone put a guarantee on a box, Hmm very intersting."

Old Manager: "Go on I'm listening."

Tommy: "Here's the way I see it. A guy puts a fancy guarantee on the box, because he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside."

Old Manager: "Yeah, it makes a man feel good."

Tommy: "Of course it does, why shouldn't it? You figure you put that little box under your pillow at night the Guarantee Fairy might come be and leave a quarter, right Ted?"
...

Old Manager: "But why do they put a guarantee on the box then?"

Tommy: "Because they know all they sold you was a guaranteed piece of crap. Thats all it is isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and name it guaranteed I will, I got spare time.

Old Manager: "Okay, I'll buy from you."

Anyways, to my point and the thread....

Sorry your PC's spindle broke and left you hanging when you needed it. OP, you said it was acting up abnormally when you used it the last few times... they don't act abnormal because their having a 'bad day', it because something’s wrong.

Good rule to live by, if a machine is acting abnormally its being caused to do so by something abnormal. Stop using it and look over it or get it checked out (safety first). I don't know if this broke at speed (in use) but imagine what would have happened if this was a grinder or other tool, it starts acting up and all of a sudden its head or blade snapped off and went flying through the air.

Second. GG machine looks outstanding. Only reason I went with my PC years ago is because a friend of mine has had his for years without problems (both ours are used daily). So have I, may I add.

Third, the guarantee is what almost sold me on the idea of the GG machine, but I think like this. Let’s say your GG machine breaks in 5-6years (as you stated your PC did) even with only using it 10 times. I'm sure you will be pretty upset again, right? I would be for sure too.

Well you got the guarantee right? :). Well would you want and trust another GG machine or would you try out another brand?

If you want the GG for more power, the guarantee 'peace of mind' and it’s simply just the one you want now, then I say buy it. In the end you have to feel confident about what tool you are using and it will do what you need it to.

Remember, everything eventually breaks.

PS: not trying to break balls or make fun. Just giving you my thoughts. :)

The guarantee does not guarantee it will not fail. It is the guarantee to replace it if it does fail.

I plan to get a new DA and still lean toward the Griot's because they do fail. 3D has a new polisher but their warranty is 3 years. If my work depended on a working DA, I would invest in a spare. All brands can fail.
