Used this black label glass coating back in middle of august, when i was the car now. it's practically worn off. My spray wax has lasted longer on the rear window then this stuff. Did i do somthing wrong. In order i did:

Megs crystal wash
Dryed with chamios
Dp paint prep on applicator sponge
i did not clay as the windshield was already smooth minus some rids (typical gm windshield)
applied black label coating to impala windshield. Each side i did 2 squirts and buffed in with a soft applicator sponge. Let sit for approx 1 minute then buffed off with a mothers microfiber.

Did i do somthing wrong or is this just a bad product? I know peoplw with aquapel who are having way better luck? Maybe i just didn't put it on thick enough

how often did you use your wipers? seems like the less i use my wipers the longer anything lasts due to less abrasion.

was this done to the front or rear window when it didn't last long?

it was done to the windshield and drive & passenger front windows. Everything else in the rear i wasn't to concerned about. my windshield too has hardcore swirls from the previous owner and i'm not about to fork out 700 for a new one. I use my wipers usually once in the morning, since i'm in canada it's getting colder and frost and due is kicking in. And otherwise just when it rains. i don't use my windshield fluid or nothing

Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong:
2 months of wiper-abrasion will take its toll.

Ight thanks guys. I applied a bit more this time around so we will see how it lasts... Just seems like 69 bucks is a bit overkill for somthing that lasts 2 months. maybe i'll try a detailers pro series next time

I've had pretty good experience with DP glass coating :props:

well 69 on something that doesn't use wipers at all is a good investment imho.

the last time i got caught in the rain, my supra didn't even have front wipers on it (still off being sand blasted at home, in the middle of refinishing). and my windshield and glass were coated with blackfire crystal seal, and had no issue getting home in a bad storm. wipers would have only hindered my view through the glass, you couldn't pay the water to stay on the windshield. good stuff, and the black label coating specifically for glass probably performs just as well, although like stated, not too economical for a car that will use its wipers. such as my truck was.

my supra is still good to go on glass being coated and always beading up super nice, but my truck who got the same treatment (opti-seal), is now in need of another coating because i do tend to hit the wipers once in a while while driving. you may want to avoid spraying regular wiper fluid on the windshield as well. wiper fluids contain methanol or alcohol to keep them from freezing, it could probably cause a shorter life span on your coating as well if you keep abrading and spraying alcohol.

Thanks for the tips! Sucks with winter coming around i won't really have a choice but to spray. So i might purchase some crystal seal once this bottle runs out as it has multiple uses.

Thanks for the tips. Didn't realize that just using the wipers in general would affect the sealant.

I've had very good luck with the Pinnacle coating. I spray it on more liberally than the instructions say. You use more product, but I have good longevity with it.

I believe Nick said something to the effect that multiple sprays of Pinn. glass coating is needed to get the longevity it promises. Basically what Dan K is doing.

Not enough coating was applied

I would recommend 5-8 sprays for each side of the windshield. One spray is suitable for a mirror.

Reapply using more and you'll have much better results. :props:

Also, if youre going to use your wipers, be sure you're cleaning the blades off as well, dirt on the blades will abrade the windshield much worse than normal, that may help with durability

so i woke up this morning. And all of a sudden it dawn-ed (pun intended) on me as to what the culprit might have been. The gas station that i used to work at a few years back is still the one i attend to this day. A new employee was working about 1 week ago and even though it's full serve i pump my own gas. Well as i was turning around before i could even say a word, the employee had started to clean my windshield with soap and water. 80% chance it was dishsoap he was using. I litterly cringed and calmly explained why that was bad for the windshield. He appoligized kindly and said he would make sure not to touch my windshield again. He 100% understood why i didn't want soap and water on it too. So that probably didn't help the coating

I really hope dish soap isn't strong enough to remove the glass coating. After I use up all of my PBL glass coating I'll probably move to something else like carpro or back to aquapel.

I will say that I never had the durability issues with aquapel that I am with the PBL glass coating. That coating was routinely cleaned with car soap, onr, touchless washes and ammonia glass cleaner. I'll apply even more coating next time to see if that helps the longevity of it.

I have pinnacle but it's a thin liquid. It has to be completely dry to take off or it'll smear. Hard to get it clear if it smears. Works well but I don't use it anymore. I just use megs 21 sealant on the entire car. Works good with no smears

Nick,

Please update the application guide to reflect your recommendation. Because the guide says "For windshields, 3-4 sprays of Diamond Glass Coating is more than enough." To me 10-16 sprays (5-8 per side) for a windshield is significantly more that the advertised 3-4.

I'm also curious as to how the recommended 10-16 sprays affects the advertised "up to 50 windshields." Having to use up to 5x more product than thought when ordering can cut into someone's profit margin if they do this for a living.

Dawn won't remove it, but it will leave a "film" that can and will hinder the hydrophobic characteristics of the coating. Washing the windshield with a diluted APC will remove the Dawn.

Great recommendation - We will most definitely update the application instructions.

Technically 3-4 sprays *should* be enough, but there are too many variables (size of windshield, gust of wind, applicator, etc), that I started recommending 5-8 sprays (per side) instead to play to ensure enough product is applied.

Like the old saying goes...better safe than sorry.

Is spraying more going to add more of a layer to it all at one time though? Like products dissolve like products, especiLly a spray sealant before its cured, wouldnt it be more advisable to say 4 sprays per side in two sessions, after letting the first set enough where you wont be removing it by sprayinh more sealant with solvents in it?

Spraying more (5-8 per side) ensures complete and even coverage.
