I have not had any problems with the Mothers clay falling apart and degrading fast.
Would love to know how clay can degrade. It can get dirty over time, sure.

Order of aggressiveness:
From this thread (1= more aggressive)
1. Pinnacle XMT speed clay
2. Mothers (gold)
3. Pinnacle ultra poly
and from this post on another forum (with a lot of background info as well): Detailers Automotive Clay: - An Article by Jon Miller - Autopia Forums - Auto Detailing & Car Care Discussion Forum
Aggressiveness (on a scale of 1 to 5)
1 Clay Magic® - Red- very aggressive; most surface marring - 5/5
2 Top of the line purple- slightly less aggressive - 4/5
3 Clay Magic® -Blue- less aggressive; less marring - 3/5
4 Mother's - Yellow- 2/5
5 Sonus Ultra Fine -Green- 1/5
Anyone know where the Pinncale ultra and the XMT speed clay fit in the list of 5?
