Just out of curiosity.... Has anyone ever tried or heard of anyone doing a full exterior paint correction using Pinnacle XMT swirl removers using in order: #4....#3...#2.... Than what ever you please after? Just wondering!! Thanks:dblthumb2:
You don't have to use 4, 3, 2, and then 1. If the paint is severely neglected, and I mean BAD, you could use 4 followed by 2 and then 1 (depending if the paint is hard or soft). 3 followed by 1 will be more than enough to correct most swirled-out vehicles that you come across.
Pinnacle XMT polishes are about as easy and straight forward to use as they come. Plus, they can also be used in direct sunlight, which is a huge plus if you don't have a garage.
I can attest to that, I own the whole xmt line and have used in the sun, good results, good products.
What pads do you use with these combos? I have the ccs pads. blue, black, white, yellow, green. I have tried different situations and have difficulty find what works... i have single pads and dont want to impregnate the pads with different swirl removers.
Which pads are you using with XMT 4&3? Are you using having trouble with XMT 4&3 leaving swirls/marring? I would start with white for either compound and step up to green if you need more cut. I can't think of too many scenarios where the average person with average paint defects would need XMT 4. If you have a soft paint system and don't know the thickness, then stay away from 4. I cut through clear on my STi working by hand with 4 and an orange euro-pad(dual foam). You really have to work there polishes through their cycle and use very light pressure on the last couple section passes. For 4&3 I would even recommend misting the pad after about 6 section passes to work the compound all the way though its cycle. Just don't dry buff and you should be okay. With XMT 2&1 you can probably use the black/gray pad if following 3. To use 2 alone I would try using white and step down front there.
As far as jot wanting to mix pads and compounds/polishes you will have to to figure out what system works for you paint system, or purchase more pads. If you are to purchase new pads I would try using LC Hybrids. Speaking of, what size pads and BP are you using? Oh, and what machine?

The green pad has too much cut to be efficiently used with 1 after two/white. I would step down to the gray(black) or blue pad with 1. What does the finish look like after 2/white? You should be pretty much defect/marring free after 2/white. I think you may be over think the numbers and colors. Just because they are in an order doesn't mean you have to use them in that exact order/sequence. You can usually skip down a pad or two, and you don't need to follow the numbers in succession if one in the middle finishes the paint the way you want it to look. It's kinda like when I first wet sanded. I pretty much went from 1000 grit to 3000 grit using all the grits in between. Can it work? Yes. Is it more work than necessary? Yes.
Always start with the least aggressive combo and work up, doing test spots the way through.
You should try to meet up with Anthony of B&B Detailing. I think you guys aren't too far from one another.
