Hey All! We went to work on a Navajo on Saturday and went ahead and turned it into a couple day event :dblthumb2: We 2 stepped it in many areas and brought it back to life. We still have a day left to finish the interior and some of the exterior but I could not wait to share some photos. I Love Detailing Aircraft :buffing:

Thanks for looking! :buffing::buffing::buffing::buffing::buffing::buffing::buffing:

Looks amazing, this is one area I would like to venture in the detailing world. Amazing work. Question what kind of training does it take to detail aircraft? I would like to learn. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the compliment - I got VERY lucky and attended one of 30 highschools (at the time anyway) that had an aircraft mechanics course. I took that for 4 years and was given an aircraft cleaning job when I was 16 or so. After that, became a F-16 crewchief in the AF (we cleaned those as well)..... then joined the number 1 FBO in the nation at the time in Monterey CA - where I learned to detail aircraft and was given the opportunity to become a partner and expand an aircraft detailing company. That was my training - experience OJT and through detailing hundreds of aircraft over the years. I Love it for sure :dblthumb2:

What high school was that?? So did you sit for your A&P before you were out of high school? If so, what did that do for you in the Air Force?

Nah - it gave me credit for my airframe or powerplant - can't remember which...... I was originally going to go to Embry Riddle in Florida (even visited there for a week) - but the funds weren't there...... wanted to be an aeronautical engineer! I have quite a few credits in tactical aircraft maintenance, but never pursued it after taking on half the responsibility of an aircraft detailing company. Thought I was gold after that!

Yeah, I visited Embry-Riddle, too, but I really wanted to go to Northrop...what did they call it then? It became Northrop University, but back then it was Northrop Institute or something. You always wonder how it would have worked out if you had done it differently.

Very true - Sometimes I wish I had taken out loans and gone that route..... but then again I am who I am from the road I have gone down. I actually had an academic scholarship to University of Tennessee - but chose the military instead (more so to get away). BUT - Embry Riddle would have been a nice road to go down :/

I'm not sure I would change anything, as you say, we are the product of our past, you just wonder sometimes. We have an A&P school here in NJ, but I got offered a job and took that instead, probably just as well. Did you find yourself a manager yet?

Nope, not yet man. Have had some potentials - but back away.... not sure why, its a great opportunity. We see a BUSY year coming this year :/

Wow great job! I did not ever think that the de-ice bags could be polished!

That is my question also.

Are the leading edge bladders just wet in that shot or were they really treated with something. I would be afraid to use any sort of chemical on them, since they are so critical to flight safety.

And the completed aircraft sure looks great. Those spinners really shine.

Did you do the cockpit too? What can you safely use on the glass panels.

Thanks guys - the boots were stripped and sealed with a Jet Stream product - PBS. It shines like that because I spent the day tossing coats of sealant on them.... I think 4 coats all together.

Woww i just found out that airplane needs some love to!:laughing: nice job :dblthumb2:

What type of sealant is used on aircraft? Is it essentially the same as sealant for cars? And is the paint the same, at all?

Lol - more so than you think!

Paint is much harder - there is no clear.... it is more like school bus paint if you are familiar with that surface. Sealant for aircraft - Ive always used Xylon 3 - VERY expensive but also a great sealant IMO.
