Heres what I do for plastic cladding(Avalanche, CRV, Xterra, etc.):

Spray APC full strength or 1:1 and let dwell. Spray again and srcub REALLY WELL with a stiff bristle brush with bristles small enough to get into the "grains" of the grained plastic. Rinse, dry and repeat if nessesary.

This product(marketed under the ACS brand in my area) works really well. It doesnt streak when it gets wet like the Mothers, Megs, etc. products and it's not oily/greasy like some oil based products. It's waterproof and of gives off a semigloss shine. It's actually one of the very few "Volume Detailer" brand products that I like and use.

GM's Gator Back is designed specifically for this, they have personal version you can normally grab at a dealer. Other trim stuff for me doesn't work well on greyish trim once faded and I've tried a lot.

There is nothing that works on the faded Avalanched claded trim. As a previous ownder the only thing that works is what is mentioned above.

I had a buddy who worked at a high end detail shop in Orlando and remember hearing him mention something about the owner using a heat gun to heat up the trim and it would help with the color. Im not recommending this as it seems kind of crazy to me but has anyone heard of this?

Yea, I've heard of this, I think it's quite common actually as it brings the black back like new and it lasts about as long as it did from new as well since I think you are helping to bring some of the chemicals that make it black back to the surface.

Using a heat gun to restore the trim does work. The only problem is its really not good to use on large areas like bumpers and such because of the small surface area that heat gun covers makes even treatment extremely hard. It usually ends up very splotchy and streaky. The heat gun is pretty much just burnishing the plastic.

Ive tried it out before on my friends jetski . It looked good from a few feet away but when your standing right next to its very noticeable.

Trim restorer really work!! I did it on ALL my 1990 windows trim and it gave a nice restore( not a FLAT BLACK, but more like black/dark grayish). Still look a lot better than before!

Trim restorer works well on really faded trim. Mine is so faded it's grey but with TR it brinks it back for a few weeks. Being petroleum based it hold up in rain quit well.
