Plastic bumpers

The pillar covers are coated with what GM terms a "UV Coating". They were replacing them under warranty years ago for coating failure. Can't tell in the picture, but my '07 has the same condition:

I've been polishing them with Meguiar's UC on an orange pad and they look respectable - for a while. It's obvious the plastic needs some type of protection, as it's not very UV resistant on its own. I'm debating what path to take once I finally get to do my spring cleanup. I'll be wet sanding to feather the edges of any remaining coating, then polishing them back to a glossy state. After that, I'll 1)Coat 'em with Optimum and see if it holds up, 2)Clear 'em with Dupli-color, or 3)have 'em all vinyl wrapped.

Ah, I didn't know GM was replacing them. It's weird, it's a relative's car, and the places it failed were the places it got touched a lot closing and getting in/out of the car. Car's garaged and doesn't get a lot of UV exposure. I did try some OC 2.0 when it started happening, but that didn't help.

What is yours, a CXS? Are those 17" wheels? They're a lot nicer than the chrome-clad with the glued-on plastic hubcap--or are those "high-polish clear"?

So check it out guy's.. Alls I used was Wolfgang TSR 3.0 by hand and look at the results I got from just that...

My clear coat is failing on my B n C pillars.. Its flaking, cracking and peeling off. Any suggestions on what to do with them?

No, mine's a very well-equipped CXL. I bought it about a year and a half ago with 40,000 miles. The wheels are the optional 17 inchers, which are real chrome-plated aluminum. I know positively, as I had to grind the chrome off the inner bead surfaces of two wheels, where moisture got underneath the plating and corroded the aluminum, resulting in slow leaks. A couple hours of work and some POR 15 should keep them sealed for a long time.
I used to manage a Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealer and drove a bunch of Lacrosses and Grand Prixs as Co. cars. When searching for a newer DD, I just couldn't find a decent low-mileage GP, but this well-maintained CXL showed up, so I bought it. I've had a few CXS models and really liked the handling, but I prefer the low-end torque of the old-school 3800 over the 3.6 CXS motor, so CXL it was. I just bought a bunch of poly sway bar bushings and links, which I hope will tighten it up a bit.
