I have black plastic door panels on my 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe . They have some scratches on them . The scratches are white appearing . I have tried covering them up but that doesn't seem to Feed back pleasedo any good . Do i need to scuff them up and paint them or is there some way to fix it ?

I don't think I would paint them. One of the downsides to black plastic trim. Light trim stains, which will actually clean up sometimes, but the black, once you scratch it deep, you're pretty much stuck with it. I have found that 303 Aerospace does a pretty good job of hiding the scuffs/scratches.

I don't know if something like Black Again or Black WOW would work...they are for exterior black trim, but maybe they would improve interior trim too. Maybe others have tried it and can opine?

If they are light like this one:

AFTER:

I very carefully heated the area with a cigarette lighter

The key is very CAREFULLY! I've seen the use of a heat gun work, but there always is the chance of instilling more damage than it's worth. If the scratches aren't too bad, I would darken it with an interior dressing once every few weeks. If you would like to try the heat method, I've seen success with hair dryers. But again, do not overheat the plastic as the results would be less than favorable.

I'd say if there in an area that gets a lot of wear and tear, (ex. trim by the footwells, dress it).

Thanks . Not the answer i wanted . But will have to live with it .

Scratches just like this one . It is about 1' long . Will play with the blow dryer this weekend . Does it need to be messed with or does it just turn black .

I haven't used this old reconditioner trick for a few years now.
Saw a few threads in '12 talking about the heat gun rejuvenation of plastics. Don't rember the poster though.

Good save.

Just heat it.

If you are using a lighter....wait until it cools and run a towel over it to remove any soot.
