My 2007 Maxima has a chrome-like plastic trim piece that runs from the windshield up and over the roof to the back window. At that point it meets a piece of chrome trim. Why the whole piece isn't chrome amazes me. The back chrome piece cleans up great, but that long piece from the windshield looks bad. I have tried wax's and various cleaners but it still looks dull and faded. I assume it is plastic. Any other Nissan owners out there know what I mean?

Those products appear to be for black plastic, this looks like chrome. See the pic. It runs along the windshield up the roof.

That is what I tried, Mother's chrome cleaner, however this is not chrome it is some sort of plastic.

Id like to say your next step would be a mild polish but it would more than likely stain the surface. Could you take a closer up picture of the trim? Maybe that would help?

I would try something like Klasse AIO it worked great getting the water stains out of my fake chrome on my Infiniti

OK here is a pic. You can notice the chrome trim piece at first. It then runs into this plastic "fake" chrome piece...

So when new these 2 pieces were identical (or at least close) in appearance?

Just a thought, would plastic polish be any good?

Haven't used any myself yet (although it's sitting here...) & most stuff does seem to be aimed at clear plastics but maybe someone with more experience can advise whether it's worth trying?

Yes, they were both the same. It is obvious that the piece around the window is chrome and the other larger piece is plastic....What a poor design, looks like crap. I have kept my eyes open and have seen others just like this...

That looks like regular old plastic trim like most vehicles. The funny thing is i did a google image search on your car and some models appear to have your "fake" chrome and others have basic black trim. I think a simple way to test it would be to get some cheap Armor All and try a small spot on the trim, if it darkens its more than likely plastic. If it doesnt do anything its probably faded chrome trim im guessing.
