What product should I use to protect the plastic engine cover of my ATS?

Water based product.carpro perl or black fire products.

1st I wipe everything down with Megs APC@10:1 then I simply go over everything that's black plastic or rubber with Meguiars Hyper Dressing and some paper towels. Engine cover gets the same, just light with the Hyper Dressing on the engine cover.

Your Caddy's still in creampuff condition, so you might opt for cheapo microfiber towels instead of paper towels like I do.

I'm going to go against the majority of AG. I think an engine bay looks just fine clean and not dressed. Try a rinseless wash like Uber at a detail strength and clean your plastic every other wash. Easy and very economical. BTW Uber does leave some polymers behind too.

So Wolfgang Uber isn't quite the equivalent to Megs D114 afterall? Ahh crap.. So how is it still good as claylube and everything else it says it does? Interior wipedown, plant waterer, emergency eyewash, etc.. all sorts of claims in the description..

We can't use Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer as claylube because it has polymers, but Uber is ok? Those Germans making bold claims. Lol. J/k

I give my engine bay a good clean-up with appropriately diluted Meg's 101 APC, and then rub down all the plastics with 303 protectant. Leaves a nice, clean, not-too-shiny look.

I used wolfgang exterior trim sealant on the plastics. Cleaned with APC @4:1 and wiped off / blow dry. Then applied the sealant. The 10-15 min cosmetic detail

^^ that's why I did last year and have only ever used Uber WW since. Engine looks brand new! I take 5 mins and wipe down various areas after each was so that it's continually being kept clean which helps.

I'm just curious... what is the rationale is for using water-based products in the engine compartment?

Solvent based attracts dirt and holds it,not to mention its flammable and greasey.
