Hey everyone, has anyone in here tried to use Plasti Dip to paint their rims? My rims are actually banged up and I was thinking of using Plasti Dip to make a paint job on my rims. Thanks!

My good friend did it to his Porsche almost a rear ago and they are still holding up. I prefer satin black engine enamel to it though. I had engine enamel on my jeeps wheels and they took a beating while off roading and they still held up

Here's a picture. For some reason mobile will only let me upload the small file and not the full size. If you can't see it good enough let me know and I'll hop on my computer.

Do it. Just make sure you get 4-5 good coats on so it holds up and will then peel off easier. The rule of thumb that's been making its way around is use 4 cans for a set of wheels.

My wheels have been done for over 2 years and still look great.

Protip: use garbage bags over the brakes and use playing cards to wedge in between the tire and wheel.

Dudes are doing insane things with plasti dip.

Wheels are nothing, those crazy guys are dipping interiors seats and all..

Crazy right!

Word in the rumor mill is that there is a SUPER Gloss coming. It's suppose to make all the flat colors super glossy almost like real clear coat. Then there will be no limit with what you can do!

Don't do it!!!! :nomore:

It looks fine initially, but when it starts to peel, it looks awful. If you really want to recolor your rims, get them powder coated. When you do this, they can take out all the rash and recondition your rims when needed. Powder coating is going to give you a more durable finish and better gloss...way more IMHO than the glossifier spray.

If you want to sand and recondition a wheel thats great. But if you want to cover up a blemish or want different colors. The stuff is great.

I have pieces on my DD that were done 2 years ago and still look great no peeling and no fade. The car sits outside year round and gets washed almost weekly.

Thanks for the tips guys, wow that Porsche looks great! I'll keep you posted with my updates with my Plasti Dip project :)

Plasti-Dip works very well. I have done aluminum rims and lower front bumper spoiler with good results. I also did the B-Billars and so far after 6 months OK. Interesting thing-if you use a tire coating over top it really shines?

I bought an anthracite True Metallic gloss wheel kit on BF intending to do my steelies before winter but never got a round tuit.

The local specialist wheel refinisher charges about $100 a wheel to return factory alloys to better-than-new condition, but there are many refinishers who do a reasonably good job for half that. For just a little more than twice what a gloss Dip kit costs you can have your wheels professionally restored.
