Please help to decide how to tackle the issues with the roof of my car

Tried the nanoskin autoscrub medium grade 6" pad with DA on the roof today.

Broke the new pad by using it on glass for couple of minutes with plenty of QD.

I used speed 3 to make the first pass and speed 2 for the second pass.

Wiped the QD using a MF cloth.

The bare skin as well as plastic bag test (aka 'baggie test') showed the roof is smooth as glass, but there was a shock to come.

Initially I had planned to compound the entire roof using the most aggressive stuff I have, UC + LC CCS yellow pad, as I knew it was in a pretty bad shape.

But couple of years of thorough neglect when I was out of country had resulted in the roof looking like this:

Full of type 1 & type 2 bird drop etching, tree sap hardened like stone, chips exposing the basecoat (on a roof - how??), and random scratches with truckloads of swirls. Also marring was present in a couple of places, guess the geniuses from the dealership who tried 'polishing' my car when I was out have a hand in that!

I seriously think that the roof is beyond correction by detailing, and only option is a repaint or wrapping.

That's why I did not progress any further today, and ask for opinions from the experts - what do you suggest? I am strongly leaning towards black CF vinyl wrapping.

Please help!!

I'm assuming a DD. Why not give paint correction a try and see what the result s are? Most of what you describe/show will come out (I doubt you will even need to use a yellow pad), obviously the chips to the basecoat won't. If the final results are acceptable, you save the money of repaint or a wrap. If you are not satisfied with the results, then you could go for the wrap. With that said...it almost sounds like you want the wrap and are looking for an excuse to justify it.

Lolz - you a thought reader or something? I even Have the wrap roll in my cupboard. But I made a mistake in measurement while ordering and it's not wide enough to cover the roof without joints. May use that for mirrors though!

Let me try compounding it using UC & use a filler heavy polish after that (Sonus paintwork cleanser?). I do not even expect the type 2 bird bomb etchings to be affected, but may be the fillers would make them less prominent. If the results are even to the level of 'satisfactory', will seal them using C845 / Auto Glym HD.

Shall try to post the results tomorrow.

Just a car guy, we all think alike. We just need an excuse to pull the trigger. :xyxthumbs:

I would say UC with an LC CCS or Flat Orange pad should take care of it, slow arm speed and speed 5 or 6.

The deeper ones and the bird etchings would be as the others have stated...
