Pneumatic Polishers

Today is the day I just want to ask and ask... I was wondering why pneumatic polishers are not so popular? Pneumatic tools do have some advantages #... I know there must be one or some good reasons of why they are not popular and I would love to learn

My initial hunch is that 99% of users don't have a sufficiently large compressor (and associated storage/'receiver' tank) to keep it spinning.

I looked up the specs on an IR air polisher and it needs 8 CFM unloaded and up to 22 CFM @ 90 psi when loaded up. A compressor that will provide that much air without burning up in short order is ~$2000 or more. Also keep in mind an air polisher will slow down as more load is applied, unlike the better electric polishers that have speed regulators that electronicly maintain a constant speed.

Cyclo makes a 12A pneumatic version of their classic model 5 polisher. As jdsmith stated, you need a substantial air compressor, something you'd find in a shop. However, you can't bog this unit down by applying too much pressure. Here's a video by Cyclo on their 12A polisher: YouTube
