As some of you remember my last attempt at polishing was rained out. This evening I tried it again and finished the hood only. I started at 4pm and finished at 7:15pm. That's right, 3.25 hours on just the hood. I'm new at polishing so I took my time. The hood had some very severe water etching and some light scratches (nothing that could catch you nail). I did a 2'x2' section with the orange pad and XMT#3. Minimal results. I did this all over the hood. Again minimal results. I did it again. Same results. I moved to the yellow pad with #3. better results but not what I expected. I moved back to the orange pad with #3 then white pad with #1. the hood looked a lot better but I could still see some light etching and a few light scratches. I finished up with XMT glaze the Pinnacle was. The hood looks a 100% better but I'm not impressed.
After all was said and done I think I ruined one pad and the backing pad. The center of the backing pad's Velcro heated up and melted to the back side of the orange pad. I know I didn't apply too much pressure because the pad never stopped rotating.
Here are a few pictures of the hood. Sorry about the lighting it was getting late. I still have few etch marks and something that looks like pin holes all over it.
Polished but no wax:
