Well today I was using my Griot's 6" Polisher for the first time and I was washing/drying my orange and white LC flat pads.

When I was drying them, the orange dried with no problems, I set the setting at 6 on the polisher and it dried it in seconds.

However when I put on the white pads, the polisher was vibrating like crazy and I could barely hold it because it would numb my hands ha. I also turned down the speed and it was still vibrating but not as crazy as it was.

I don't understand why that happens. I was gonna start polishing my car but I don't want to be doing it with my hands going numb from the polisher!

It has been advised to NOT spin dry your pads at full speed with a DA polisher, you just experienced one of the reasons. Uneven weight distribution at high speed. The orange pads are a coarser foam and release water easier, white pads will tend to retain more than the others (and don't ask about tangerine H-T pads and holding water). On my Flex 3401, I do spin dry but I first squeeze as much water as possible and then only let it hit full speed and immediately let go of the trigger. They can air dry the rest of the way.

As David said not advised. I don't dry my pads like that at all though I do clean the pad on the fly. When drying pads I just squeeze them out real well and air dry. Also I think the Griots has a tendency to vibrate a bit in the first place. Or at least the one I used did. I mean while polishing the vibration was noticeable. Then again maybe that vibration is the norm with most DA's. I do know I don't get any of that with my Flex though.

Oh I see, yeah I've always read about people spin drying on their DA, but I didn't know there was a limit to it.

But yeah this vibration was hand numbing lol like those game machine where you're supposed to hold the handle while it "electrifies" you.

Now I know it's a no no!

Double check your backing plate is seated and tightened correctly, center a pad on it, and do some polishing. Let us know if you get an excess amount of vibration while polishing.

I bought a harbor freight rotary for $20 that I only use to spin dry my pads. :xyxthumbs:

Will do tomorrow morning!

Which one? The one with digital speed selection, or the other one? I've been waiting for either one to go on sale to use for the same purpose, well, I'm sure I'll try polishing something with it too. :D

I have the non digital speed selection one. Of course I tried polishing with it one time(my Acura), but I made a hologram mess! I worked with very soft paint, and they were very hard to remove. I'll stick with my Flex 3401 for now! :buffing:
