Polisher

I'm looking to give someone advice on a detailing forum about a new polisher, but I have no idea what experience they have or what machines they may already own.

i am looking to give advise on a polisher to a forum member but need to know what kind of experience he has with polishers .

I can recommend the following polishers:

Rotary

  • Makita 9227
  • Flex PE14-2-150
Dual Action

  • Porter Cable 7424
  • Flex 3401
Questions

  • What would you like to know?
  • Have you used either style?
  • What will you use it on?
 
I would suggest the Flex 3401 or Griots random orbital .

Since you're just starting out then take a good look at the dual action polishers offered. A dual action polisher is easy to use and with the right pads, products, and a little practice you'll be surprised how great your finish will look...:props:

AG has some great packages that offer a machine, liquid compounds/polishes and pads all in one. I got a great deal on my Flex with some Menzerna products and Lake Country pads to get started on a nice compliment to my Makita rotary setup, but I'd recommend the Porter Cable or Meguiars G110 V.2 to someone without experience.

Do some homework on your own and get as many product reviews and opinions as possible before settling on one. ASK TONS OF QUESTIONS. That's what we are here for. Once you know which machine you'll be picking up, do the same type research on any compounds, polishes, glazes etc. you want to start off with.

Look into:
Meguiars
Optimum
Menzerna
Wolfgang

There are a lot of fans of varying products that will tell you "just go buy xxx I use it every day and it is the best thing I've ever used" but keep in mind that there are different strokes for different folks.

Get as many opinions as you can, buy small quantities of things you want to try and eventually you'll form a bond with certain product combinations that will form your own personal recipe for detail supremacy.
 
STOP...don't run out and buy stuff...big mistake...do what bobby says above and READ...it will save you both time and money.

I kinda knew what I was doing, and then started reading here and realized quickly I had no idea what I was doing!!!......its easy to get a car waxed....it's a lot more skill to get it DETAILED.....
