My 2001 trans am has some moderate swirls in the paint (jet black) and I was wondering what kind of pads and polishes are preferred for jet black? I'm using a makita 9227. Thanks in advance.

Some photos would help to see what you need to correct the paint.

I could borrow a DA from a friend but I've been using a rotary for almost 3 years now. I work for a dealership and that's what I was taught with. The thing is I've only used 3m's 3 step polishes, but I would like something different for my car. I'll try and post some pics here soon, car is not with me atm.

I don't think the paint will need corrected it's not awful, it's more light to mild swirls I shouldn't have said moderate.

i would borrow a da from your friend in the event you cant finish down with the rotary on that paint.ya just never know how the paint will talk to you.

Fair enough, I'm just not sure how the speed settings on a DA compare to a rotary, I was thinking of getting griots set of 4 machine polishes.

I use a DeWalt 849 rotary and either of two combinations:
1. Menzerna SIP 1500/SF 4000
or
2. Meguiars 105/205
After 1 or 2, I then finish with 3M Ultrafine Polish.
